Freemason lodges in America are slowly disappearing, like the Grange,
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Odd Fellows, and others. I've had friends gently urge (but not ask) me to join the masons, but since I don't know what they do I will stay away. This article didn't provide any real information about the fraternity.

THEY'RE EVERYWHERE, even dubya, he's a mason to the 33rd degree, that's when they roll up their pants around their bollocks to lengthen the amount of time they can be serviced by goats and lower members!

To spotwood, there will be a website for the Grand Lodge for your state, try a google search for grand lodge of (insert your state here) and you will be able to fin out all about it. Alternatively you could visit one of the many masonic discussion forums on the internet, my favourite is www.thefreemason.com/forum where you will be able to ask questions.

To strtrs,

Its sort of true, Freemasonry generally had a huge influx of members after WWII and now nature is taking its course and many of those members are now passing away which is resulting in a decrease in numbers. However, Freemasonry isn't about the numerical supremacy of its membership figures, so those who think it is dying are a little off the mark, it's already been aound for over 300 years with far fewer members than it has today and of course these same people ignore the rise over the last Century of mixed and women-only Masons.

The trouser leg is rolled up in our Masonic Lodges for deeply held religious reasons. Now that you know, please desist from poking fun at what you clearly do not understand.

Freemasonry is not dying, i am 39 years old married with 2 children, i have a very normal job in a large company and dont have any power to influence anything, body or organisation. i was initiated into freemasonry last year an it has been a fantastic experiance so far. First and formost the people i have met are a fantastic bunch of chaps of all ages and backgrounds with one thing in common,we all want to be good people. we are all human an no doubt have our moments but i have only seen and experienced warmth caring and generosity with absolutly no alterior motive. whilst our ritual is private it is not secret,(its plastered all over the web!) and that almost is the point, it is a great adventure which as you progress you are enlightened to the human experiance. This is probably possible in other organisations elsewhere but freemasonry has no strings attached,it brakes no promises and no pressure applied to act in any way, it introduces you to you, it is your journey. It makes me sad to read all the wierd stuff because it is really odd and a little worrying and certainly not true. Finally if freemasonry interests you simply ask one to be one

Our Masonic ritual, modes of recognition, and the administrative proceedings of the Craft are all secret. They are certainly not plastered anywhere, and we are steadily growing at home and overseas.

The answer is no neither of the George Bushes are Freemasons. They are actually Bonesmen, members of the Skull and Bones Society, which has nothing whatsover to do with Freemasonry.
