I have been a mason now for twenty years, and I have found it to be a very rewarding experience to attend meetings. I always meet with decent honest people from all walks of life.I was told years ago when I joined that I would only get out of it, what I put in. The gentleman who told me those words is long gone now, but I will never forget them. As regards it helping with carreer prospects it has done me no good what so ever, but then I would never expect it to.

We really do have a terrible PR position. We know we are (for the most part - every institution has its bad eggs, sadly) good guys, we don't want to be thought of as bad guys, our primary function is to make good guys even better guys, but still the public wants us to be bad guys, whatever we say!
