A Conversation for 'Mardy' - A Wonderful Word

yes, maungey is the Yorkshire equivalent, and is just as versatile, ie someone can have a maunge on. I know it's used around Halifax and Hebden Bridge but it sounds as if it could be East Coast as well?
I think though maungey may be a bit sulkier than mardy, mardy being a bit more "contrary" or obtuse (in Shropshire, anyway). Both involve soggy bits though, and seem to apply to small children, teenagers and men. Neither word was used on the Isle of Wight intil 14 months ago...
Does anyone eat "spogs" anymore?

tell me what they are and I'll answer.
btw what word do you use for the type of bread construction wrapped around a filling which is not a sandwich? Batch, roll, bap, bun, or cob?

tea cake! That might just be a Luddenden thing.
a spog is a sweetie. "gi'ss us a spog!" I remember them as being penny mixes (sherbet lemons, blackjacks and fruit salads etc) or 2oz of tom thumb drops, lemon bonbons and poor bens etc. And yes, I have all my own teeth!

currants? Coo, you're posh!
poor bens - not up to mining the rich comedy vein here, I've got swollen glands! - are made of the same stuff as Lion's Midget Gems and Sports Mixture. They're black discs (about the size of a stack of five 10ps) with three parallel lines on top, and kind of strong liquorice flavoured. Not to everyone's taste, but up there in my top five spogs. Do i feel a research entry coming on here? Certainly something I feel strongly about!

posh! nah... currants, raisins, sultanas, even squashed fly biscuits, they're all foul.
sympathy for the glands, best take some medicinal spogs.
