Some of the best art comes from mistakes.
I have never had an unworkable mistake in art.
It may end up entirely different, but still art!
Some mediums are more forgiving than others smiley - wow

Wonderful textures and shadows (depth) are created from painting over mistakes too!smiley - magic

I have also painted things that made no sense at the time.
One day, years later usually, I look and it makes perfect sense.
Why did I not see it sooner?
I see it, when it's meant to be seen, that is something special. Almost as if I grew towards it, into it when the time was right.
Kind of fun!smiley - magic

in year 9 in ceramics we were making palissy plates (plates with animals on them) and i was shaking a pot of white glaze and the lid came off, and the glaze splashed over my hummingbird...my teacher said that was a happy accident...it made it look a bit like the bird had had an accident smiley - tongueout

Life is usually a happy accident, I think.smiley - biggrin

That's how my best work happens too, whether it's makeup or painting or digital stuff. I've about given up on trying to make something specific when I'm feeling creative nowadays, because it was always an act of frustration trying to make 'real' things match what I originally envisioned. Now it's so much fun to just get bold and put in something that doesn't fit, then work it all into something cohesive and right.

I couldn't agree more - I wouldn't be without serendipity. It's one reason why I like watercolour. Serendipity also suggests colour combinations I wouldn't have thought of, that work - like when I spread out randomly collected collage materials.

It's one of the things I like about h2g2.

It also makes friends and partners, finds new homes, etc. What would the world be like without it? (Now there's a serendipitious idea for a sci-fi novel!)

I am in no way shape or form an artist, couldn't draw to save my life. I do however believe in serendipitous art or as I once dubbed it 'inadvertent art'. Its the stuff you see without seeing unless you look harder, smiley - schooloffish it is usually transient too. It is like a cloud, one minute it looks like an "x" next a "y". Sometimes they stay put for a while, next time your in town, look at shops which have windolene on them and see what you can see. smiley - biggrin. I have seen a semi-permanent one here at work, someone has spilled some paint and it looks like the hat off the Jamiroquai album covers.
