"Having my left ear pierced was easy, the left nipple was very, very, very painfull albeit only for a minute if that. Through experience of those in the guide could we not put a 1 to 10 pain guide for those aspiring to new piercings?" smiley - cool

Heh, that's a good idea. I'll say, the cartilage piercing (the one usually on the top or side of the ear) hurt more than when I got my tragus pierced. But it's prob'ly because I got it pierced with a piercing gun and the tragus with a needle. I'd rate the tragus with a 3 (doesn't really hurt, only during the piercing process) and the cartilage a 5 (still hurt for 3 days after being pierced).

"3 sounds about right, for my nipple I'd have to go for 8+, I think if I get any more in sensitive places it'll have to be with local anesthetic as a masochist I am not. I think? Welcome to H2 G2."smiley - rose

Thanks, oh great Dude of Sultan. I'm also thinking of getting an eyebrow piercing, but I'm not sure. Someone told me the body tends to 'push it out' after a while, so he had to take his off. Has anyone heard of a lowbret? My friend from down under is apparently getting one (or 2?). It's supposedly a piercing that starts from the labret, goes through the gums (ouch indeed), and comes down to the chin. She claims she'll be the 2nd person in the whole of Australia to have such a piercing. Geez, the things you do to be cool...

"Hmmm! Think I would pass on that. Couple of girls I see once in a while have their tongues pierced, and a few have their belly buttons done. The belly button job with a bit of tatooing looks really cool."smiley - cool

I'm not quite sure your 8+ is quite right for the nipple. The pain thing really relies on what else you've had pierced to compare the pain. I've had both my nipples done (among other things) and 9 weeks ago I had a Prince Albeit done. smiley - smileysmiley - smileysmiley - smiley

I'd say the nipples were probably more a 6, though they were alot more uncomfortable after the inital piercing, where as the PA (I'd say 8 ) has behaved itself quite nicely smiley - smiley Gonna have my Frenum done in about 2ish months smiley - winkeye

My friend has had an Ampallang done, now to me that sounds like a 9+ smiley - winkeye

I got my eyebrow done! T'was neat, actually. I'd say about 5 for me since it kinda hurt but didn't really last long. It's just that once I showed it to the usual crowd, half of them wanted to touch it just 'coz "it looked neat". Argh. smiley - tongueout

i'd have to say the most painful peircing i've had done was an ear cartilage (done with a peircing gun) not so much for the peircing itself but for the healing time. i couldn't sleep on that side for at least a month afterwards! and to top it all off, just when it was almost completly healed my hairdresser yanked it out while combing my hair, yeouch!! it was a bloody mess so i just let it close up and it's fine now.

i had a vertical labret done last friday and it's absolutley wonderful! the barbells a bit too short and i'm going to get it changed tomorrow, a part from that it's healing quite well. it had to be done free handed (no clamp) and that was a rush! without the clamp making it numb i could feel the needle going through, a very interesting experience smiley - smiley

So you've had your eyebrow done? You realise your on the slippery slope to getting everything you can pierced smiley - devil

Me and a friend have set a date for our next piercing expedition smiley - smiley 2ish weeks time and I'll have my Frenum done smiley - smiley It's not meant to be quite as bad as a PA, what with it being mainly skin an all smiley - tongueout I'll be able to give you a rating in the not too distant future smiley - smiley

I've had a thought. Instead of a pain guide with static values, get people to vote on what value should be appearing against each piercing smiley - smiley

"I finally got around to buying a new ring for my left ear. I thought the hole had healed up but it hadn't. Took me about an hour to get the damn thing in and closed, just don't seem to have the hang of doing things with a mirror. Still, it's in now and looks/feels okay."
Good idea about voting for the ranking. I still reckon the nipple is an 8 though."smiley - cool

I can get the rings into my ears, but can I get the ball to sit in the ring smiley - tongueout Pain in the !&@ The curved bars (?) can never remember the name of them, I have no trouble with, the balls quite happily screw on with out any fuss smiley - smiley

So how would we do this Voting system then?

Hi!

I'm new on the site and was just cruising around for somthing that might interest me,

I think that worrying about the pain is kind of missing the point with piercings (unless that's why your having them done!)

The pain and the process is just something you go through in order to have a beutifull contradiction of flesh and metal on your body, if anything the aftercare is more important,

Note to browsers, don't EVER get anything pierced with a gun - ask your local piercer why!

P.S Now Tattoo's - they hurt!

I'd agree the pain is secondary to the appearance. I must say that I've had both my nipples done, and there wasn't any pain at all - just a sharp push. It was all done so quickly ... they were a little sore for a week or two afterwards, well sensitive would be a better word. I guess I have a high pain threshold :: smiles :: On a scale of 1 to 10 for pain, I'd say 1 or 2 ! The problem is that perception of the level of pain is such a personal thing ...

I'm considering having other piercings done 'down below', but not taken the plunge yet!

I had one nipple pierced with anesthetic, and one without. They both hurt, but only one made me scream. Was worth it though. smiley - smiley

I have to say, I really believe pain is a major reason that people get piercings. well, except for normal old earrings, cause they've just become commonplace. but i will never forget having my industrial put in. (long bar that goes through cartilage at two spots - near the top and outer edge - of your ear) And as I was having it done, it really felt like I was being initiated into something bigger than myself. it's hard to explain, but it felt very primal. it hurt like a motherf-er, but i absolutely loved it and in fact am plotting another piercing already...

anesthesia is for wimps - if you can't take the heat, why are you in the kitchen?

You can't give a guide to how painful piercings are going to be for everyone. Myself i have had a fair few piercings and an implant of which none have hurt;

EARS x4 - Gauged, Eyebrow, Nostril both sides, labret, tongue, scrumper, tregus, nipple, hood, wrist, nape, bridge. And implant in my arm.

I've been told i have an extremley high pain threshold, so it is impossible to give a guide to how painful they are going to be, as what may be a 10 for you may be a 1 for me.

Got two nipples pierced a few years ago, only kept one on after a while.
I kind of remember the pain during the piercing was quite intense, but very short.

But after it was all done, and I walked out of the piercing parlor and into the sunny Oxford street of Sydney, I started to think about what I had just done to my poor nipples, and I had to sit down at a cafe's terrace for another 20 minutes before everything stopped spinning !...smiley - erm

So, really, it is all in your head !smiley - biggrin

I think it would be extremely difficult actualy agreeing on how to evaluate the pain of different piercings. A few months ago I had my PA done, and I would not put it anywhere near the 8 or so that I see others reckon it should have. On the other hand I found the tongue piercing quite painfull - at least in the days that followed after having it done.
My point is that it seems that people often find different piercings painful (although properly done a piercing, in my opinion, should not hurt much at all), and that a pain guide wouldn't be usefull. To those interested in piercings my advise would be to go out and try for yourself. A piercing is a piece of art; if you are interested in getting a piercing done it should not be the 8 or 9 on a pain guide that is stopping you.
