You move on to college theatre and it just gets better..
*giggle*
I was/am a stage manager... (ducks various food and other things thrown in her direction) however, I did not stress out at anyone... except perhaps Travis... um...
Yes, we are rather stressed out people.. but then again, the buck stops with us.
I can't believe I blinking want to do this for a profession...

i give you much credit! i spent a year studying theatre in uni and decided it wasn't for me! i'm still going to get a theatre minor, but.... *sigh*
anyway.
yes, the stress level of stage managers is INSANE! i don't know how we survive... except for the fact that we tend to rely on said stress!
who's travis?
From there..
Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 7, 2002
Travis was a nice young Mormon boy that unfortunatley we all used to pick on... Insanities of high school.
I'm at college now, actually, my first year of studying to be an SM finished.. Doing a one act over the summer that I'm basically managing.. this will be my second ASM position.. I'm pretty excited
We're doing Eugene Ionesco's "The Lesson" - a pretty odd example of absurdist theatre.. but it works.
Ack! I can talk shop for days.. heh.

eep missed a line..
thriving on the stress.. i believe that is totally true.. i love the stress.. of course when coupled with 20 unit semesters it doesnt work, but hey. that's what retaking classes is for! *snicker*

i had 19 units this last semester, and MAN was it stressful! i nearly died of panicking when i had all Cs toward the end of the semester...
we did Checkhov's The Sea Gull. it was a lot of fun, and the director was very talented, though he was a very large pain in my
poor travis. we uses to torture a freshman named chris...

blinkin' heck.. i just checked my grades.. i ended up with a 2.57.. LOL it's all messed up in there, but that's allright..
i got a lot of c's too, but mostly it was the U and the NC that killed me..
aren't directors ALWAYS a large pain in the ?
I did one show, Trestle at Pope Lick Creek by Naomi Wallace, and the director wanted not a big box of matches but one of those minis, so that we could pretend to light a bloody stupid electric "gas" lamp..
the show closed in february.
in may i found the matches.
*giggle*
there seems to be a tortured young soul in every bunch, doesn't there? the best part is they don't seem to mind too much...
I'm just going to keep chanting to myself.. "At least my cum. GPA is 2.84.. At least my cum. GPA is 2.84..."
By the way, you wouldn't happen to know of a techie's guild on this place, would you? I'd think we'd need to stick together?

actually, i don't think there is a techie's guild yet! *gasp* what a grand injustice!
and yes, directors are always a pain... sheesh. grr!

oh! forgot to mention:
my director wanted yellow watermelon.
YELLOW. not red. yellow.
i called EVERY food seller on the western seabord; no one had it. it was out of season. but the director wanted yellow watermelon!
finally, i found it, and skipped classes to go pick it up, as it was an hour drive away. i ended up missing out on the guerilla theatre exercize one of my classes did... i was NOT happy!
stupid yellow watermelon...

Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 8, 2002
they MAKE yellow watermelon?
*eyebrow*
blinking directors..
i really do think we need a guild though..

it is, apparently, a breed of watermelon. Siberian Watermelon, to be exact.
*rolls eyes*
should we start one, then? The Techies' Guild, or should we hold out for a better name?
From there..
Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 8, 2002
I think we can be a little more creative than that..
For instance, Black Box, Inc?
Or.. The Blinking People That Make Everything Run So Worship Us, Actors? (just kidding)
