As far as I'm aware, every techhie I have ever known (and I've known a few in my time) have carried at least one roll of Duct Tape with them at all thimes. Some opt for Gaffer's tape for various reasons, but they are few and far between, a dying minority.
I am shocked and surprised that your entry didn't include at least one reference to this material that, at least in my experience, has held the high school theatrical world together since... well... since it's inception I suppose.

P.S. That includes costumers. It's amazing the amount of articles of clothing you can make out of a roll of duct tape. I'd tell you, but I bet you'd be afraid to find out.

a dying minority?!?!?!
i never ONCE used duct tape in all my years of theatre. it's too sticky, and leaves a nasty film on everything when you pull it off!!!! gaff tape is by far superior, in my humble opinion, and since pretty much anything that is written is affected by personal bias, this entry is skewed in the pro-gaff direction.
i mean no offense, of course. we techies need to stick together.
so why are you pro-duct tape?

I aggree gaf is where its at. I couldn't possibly live without my gaff. Every techie I know agrees with me. I love my gaff like its my own child.

Well, you see, gaff tape (proper gaff tape, not black duct tape) is awful hard come by, and everyone gets jealous. I do not disagree that gaff tape is superior in the purest technical sense, but in a social sense, duct tape is where it's at... plus, you could always use rubbing alcohol or the like to get the residue off....but that is what custodians are for :P

Bah. Why bother, when you can just buy the proper stuff (gaff) and avoid the clean-up? Plus, it's not reflective like duct tape is. But I'll agree that duct tape is a pretty darn good stand-in for gaff, if the latter is unavailable.
