I reckon it has to be the one where the fayre comes to Craggy Island and Ted's trying to be interviewed to go on TV. Dougals insistance that the Spider Baby is real is just so funny as is the bit when the child gets stuck in the tunnel and then the nun gets stuck as well... The whole episiode is just brilliantsmiley - smiley

A very good choice. But 2 close contenders have to be, "the plague" with Bishop Brennan and the rabbits, definately, and perhaps the one with the plane, or maybe the Victor Meldrew one, or the caravan (I might have to broaden that to any with Father Noel in).

Father Noel is brilliant, Graham Norton was cast so well for that role. The caravan one is very funny, I love the scenes with the youth group in when he makes them all do the riverdance in the caravan, it gets me every time as it's so like our old school tripssmiley - smiley

Surely the Song for Europe episode must be a candidate, with the the priests' brilliant Eurosong entry My Lovely Horse.

True! the trouble is extracting the amazingly good from the very good.
You have to admit the sight of 5 people doing riverdance in a tiny caravan, and a plague of rabbits are amazingly funny.

All of them are brilliant, it's very rare that you get a series where every single episode from every single season is hilarious but each episode always makes me laugh no matter how many times I watch themsmiley - smiley

I do like the christmas one as well though but in particular the shots of Dougal making the christmas cards where he's completely covered in glitter...my mates reckon he's based on mesmiley - smiley

Insight

I don't know which is the best episode, but I think the best bits are the 'My Lovely Horse' song, Ted explaining to Dougal about the cows that are small and the cows that are far away, and when Father Ted appears to be Hitler just as the 'end of part one' music is playing.

'Hell' is hilarious, in particular the bit where Ted and Dougal drive for miles with a very angry nude man on the bonnet of the Cortina. They eventually stop - sharply and the man proceeds to smash a bottle and thrust it under the corners of the car. Each time there is a bang and the car sinks a few inches. After he has done this twice Dougal exclaims "Ted, he's puncturing the tyres!".

Great article! The episode I laugh at the most is a Song for Europe. It was a running gag in Ireland that after we won the Eurovision 3 times in a row we simply could not win again for another few decades as the national broadcaster was being driven to bankruptcy! I remember at that time all the good stuff went off Irish telly, they stopped showing the Formula 1, all the money had to be saved for the Eurovision! My Lovely Horse is such a classic. smiley - biggrin

Think fast Father Ted.

The bit where Ted tries to knock out a slight dent in a car and ends up ruining every panel.

The dancing priest.

The raffle that is fixed but Dougal nearly messes up because he had number 11 upside down.

The DJ who has one record, and plays it all night, even for the national anthem - (Ghost Town, by The Specials!!!)

Without a doubt the one in the caravan. It's the best of the best.

The best episode has got to be "A Song for Europe". I had it on video and saw it 13 times in the first week. The “My Lovely Horse” dream is the second best bit of television ever (after the chicken sequence in Family Guy).smiley - laugh

Some of my friends and I did a My Lovely Horse thing in a variety show last year.smiley - cool It includes a techno version of the song. I have a movie file of it on my computer if anybody wants it, just contact me. Be warned however, you may need to go and read a Robert Rankin novel to reassert you sanity.smiley - online2long

A Song for Europe was definately a good one....but i think the best episode ever has to be Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse.....the 10x10 photograph at the end was classic....now, who do you all think was the best character in the series (constant or visitor)....i think it's a tie between Father Jack and John & Mary(the couple who keep trying to kill each other..."lovely day, fathers").....later

I think its got to be "Speed 3" where Father Ted has to put the brick on the milktruck and Dougle completly misses the point..."You'vv forgot your brick Ted"

Insight

Since we seem to talk about favourite bits more than favourite episodes, I liked it when Ted was trying to put the two bottles of wine in his bag quietly so that Father Jack won't hear them, and actually knocks them together.

Jack:DRINK!
Ted:Er, no, no, it's erm, it's not drink father, it's just erm... fizzy water!
Jack:JACOBS CREEK CHARDONNAY 84!
Ted:What? You can tell that just by the sound of the bottles?
Jack:DRINK! DRINK!
Ted:OK, OK...
