It has to be mentioned - Aldi as a Wednesday event

Every week on wednesday, Aldi puts out special offers, which can be TV sets, VCR's, bikes, internet-ready computers and so on, for a laughable prize. All these articles in offer have reasonable quality and you have to spend a lot more money elsewhere if you want to buy junk.

The Aldi stores open at 9:00 AM, and you could be sure that people are queuing since 8:00 AM or even earlier to get these offers. When the door opens, everybody makes a run on the store. Even paralyzed people are reported to walk again, anticipating the bargain of their lives. Normally, you won't be able to get one of the bargains because you're too late, but a good tactic is to take a baseball club with you or hire some friends to block the other customers.

I don't know where you are, but here (Germany) the Aldi Wednesday has been replaced by Aldi Mondays and Thursdays. However, the same rules (get there at opening time - 8am, take a baseball bat etc.) apply. When they sell computers (which always get good write ups in computer magazines) you have to be there in the middle of the night. Really. If you get there after about 3am you can forget it.

Here (northern Germany), the Aldi Wednesdays have not been replaced by any other day. Aldi Nord is not the same as Aldi Süd, maybe thats the reason.

A really odd thing about Aldi (in the UK anyway) is that they don't open on Sundays. Most other supermarkets report Sunday as one of their busiest days, if Aldi were to open on Sundays they'd make a killing!

You mean "more of a killing" don't you?
Out of interest, in UK do the Aldi stores have their logo as an orange A on a dark blue background (leaning a little drunkenly to one side) or is it the pale blue & white on a dark blue background? I only ask because in the south of Germany they are the former whilst in the north it is the latter (also in Holland).
