"Several of these pieces have been substituted over the years, but thankfully the thimble remains to this day."
Errr... no it doesn't. I've never seen a Monopoly set with a thimble.

And I have never seen one without them (other than the specialty sets). Even screenshots of their product on the official website show them. Perhaps they carry different tokens in the UK? Not sure about that either as it is shown on their uk site (Monopoly .co .uk).
Curious.

Well the old monopoly sets I knew whilst growing up never contained a thimble, but rather the Hat, Car, Ship, Iron, Dog, Boot.
But I have since seen newer monopoly sets which have eight pieces, which includes a thimble.

Neil, I didn't know about the new sets I'll look into it, and see if I can get a bit about the new sets added via update forum.

Cool
I think there should be a thimble in monopoly anyway. It makes about as much sense as an iron... though I'm not sure what the criteria for being a standard monopoly piece were when they invented the game, any ideas?

Hmmmm looking at <./>Updateforum</.> it seems that small changes can be made by posting a thread on the Entry, which has been done here.
I can't remember about the monopoly pieces, I only looked briefly at Monopoly.

I remember a thimble being one of the playing pieces in Monopoly (U.K.) in my youth.
The "Glasgow Edition" I have now contains
A thimble
A big gun (not a pistol or rifle, a gun with wheels)
A racing car
A wheelbarrow
A top hat
A racehorse (complete with jockey)
A boot
An iron
A ship
A scottie dog
Over 20 tokens have been cast since the MONOPOLY® game was introduced in 1935 such as the horse, dog, car, elephant, purse and lantern.
In 1999 a "sack of money" was voted in as the new Monopoly token. (I don't know what was voted out.)
The latest "Here and Now" version uses
A car
A box of French Fries (with an "M" on them?)
A laptop computer
An airplane
A sneaker
A coffee cup
A dog
A cellphone
Not directly related, but having found this gem on the monopoly web site I couldn't resist posting it
"The character locked behind the bars is called Jake the Jailbird. Officer Edgar Mallory sent him to jail. "
