Tilda Swinton? Oh nononononono. Too icy, classy, cool. She's brilliant, but I'm unsure if she could pull off a caricature like Skeeter. What about Judy Davis instead?

Have to be someone who has done comedy before.
(anyway, if they announce anything, tell us)

well, Liv Tyler's irritating enough, but they'd better NOT cast her as Rita...
*scratches head trying to think of actresses the right sort of age*
Kathy Burke?
Samantha Bond? (Moneypenny) - too stunning I guess
whoever played Petunia in Bridget Jones?
Emma Thompson?
Sophie Thompson? - they're acting aristocracy, they could use one of them

Rita could be various ages, it's not as big an issue as with the guys. (you all know which guys I'm talking about, I presume. THE guys?)
Hmm, obnoxious. Who do we know that's obnoxious?

Geoff Taylor - Gullible Chump Posted Dec 1, 2002
Rita was a full adult in one of the flashbacks in "Goblet of Fire", so that makes her mid-thirties at least.
Rhona Cameron, Jenny Eclair, Sue Perkin could all do the job. For me, the best candidate is the lady who was the 3rd star of "Black Books", after Dylan Moran & Bill Bailey.
Bill Bailey should have been Hagrid, BTW

Emma Thompson could actually work as Rita... but she wouldn't do it.

Catwoman Posted Dec 2, 2002
She has got the face. I haven't seen her do that sort of charcter though.
Why wouldn't she do it? There's a lot of "serious" actors lounging around the halls of hogwarts (or skulking)

Wouldn't be too much of a stretch actually - playing tart, that is; she has that kind of prim tartness in her.
Great casting coup, too, to have Kenneth Branagh in the second film and Emma Thompson in the fourth. They're not on the best of terms now, are they? *pulls malicious gossipy face and is then ashamed of herself*

Catwoman Posted Dec 3, 2002
Why are they not happy with each other?
*doesn't care if appears to be gossipy*

They used to be married... way back in the Nineties. They had a rather public divorce. He accused her of "sleeping with Oscar" (meaning the award), and then they went their separate ways. Fond memories of when they loved each other (or appeared to) remain in "Much Ado About Nothing", where they play Benedick and Beatrice.

well, so they did - but they wouldn't have to be around each other would they? If Branagh had been picked to direct then it might have been a different issue of course...
Though I did hear *tries to remember where* Kate Winslet saying that after Sense and Sensibility (ahhh the Rickman link!) that she asked Emma Thompson whether it she should do Branagh's Hamlet, and was told to go for it...
still - I think I'd prefer Sophie Thompson for the part...

From the Popbitch e-zine:
"David Thewlis (Mr Anna Friel) is set for a starring
role in the next Harry Potter film"
We hadn't thought of him as Sirius, had we?

I woulda said he was more Lupin myself - what with the hair

Either character, but I think Sirius... the tormented look and everything... my money's on that one.

Um, okay, who is this guy?
*frantic clicking*

Well, from that picture I can't really say.

Judy Dench is too stately, methinks. I'd still go for Joanna Lumley.
