Hey there.. Welcome back.. Well, kinda.
Hwo was the flight? Everything go well? Did they let you through customs alright? How does it feel to be back?
lettres des enfants perdus
Miriam Posted Aug 14, 2000
Thanks
The flight was horrible, hot and cramped, nasty food and it was way too long, on the other hand we didn't crash...
Basically I just thought it was horrible because I didn't want to go..
It's awfully hard to leave somebody behind... *sigh*
Starting school again tomorrow... yay!
Greets,
Miriam

I think that I would say that the fact that you didn't crash makes up for a lot of the other stuff, like the crappy food and the hot cabin and the longevity of the flight. After all, what would you rather have? Crappy airplane food, or that the plane crash? No contest in my book.
Anyways, I'm sorry that you had to go when you didn't feel like it, since you had to leave that someone behind, but I hope that it'll work out in the end anyways.
Have a good day at school today...

my flat rent cotsted me about 150 $ per month, and I could affort good meal, cigarettes and a bad-ending tours through the pubs, I even bought a car.
Here, a room in a dormitory costs 300 $ per månads, i have to carefully watch the prises for any kind of meal, i stoped smoking (finally for health-reasons), and the authorithies gave me a 50 $ ticket for parking my car wrongly (which I'm not gonna pay).
But anyway: I quite like it here! the city is beautyfull, they do not overdub the movies, people are nice, and the weather have been fine so far. The language course is a boar, but I think, I will do quick progress through bidirectional communication, untill you can't tell me from a swede (Justus Eric Jonasson).
Miriam: You left somebody behind? Me too...
Christan: how is the weather in Scottland?
hejdå och so vidare jj

Hey, JJ.
I know what you mean about never having any money as a student in Sweden. They overcharge for the dorm rooms, they don't give you enough money and the pub rounds would ruin a small east-African country. I can also understand that you quit smoking, cause the price for cigarettes in Sweden is rather high, isn't it?
How was the drive up through Sweden? I hope you didn't have bad waether, but managed to get a few fair views of the scenery as you headed north.
I don't think that you'll have too many difficulties with the language, since you've already started your Swedish course before you went up to Sweden. And you seem to handle the language pretty well already.
And finally, the weather report: Cloudy in the morning, clearing skies until about lunch when the clouds star rolling in again. Frequent showers of rain and about 18-20 degrees C.
That concludes the weather report.
Have a good one.

Hej,
här är jag tillbåka!
Weather is fine, tack, and yesterday I had a long telefonsamtall med min systra, som sag, that our family wont end up´on the street, if i stay here, so i rememberd the beautyfull words, written in big worm lettters: DON'T PANIC.
Since now, nothing really exciting happend, but you meet all the time more or less exciting people, so one guy I know from the Kindergarten and later from School - this really offended me, cause I thought to live here without all those boring faces...
But C-LIS, what I like about you the rate at which you produce one "bon-mot" after the other, i try to do it also, in my german correspondence, but, I'm impressed...
since later

Guten Tag, mein Freund.
Good to hear that your family won't get ruined by your educations in Sweden. The advice on the guide always works... "Don't Panic!" There is never a time to panic (unless you're hanging over the edge of an erupting volcano, and the only thing to keep you from plunging into the volcano is a fishing line that is about to melt from the heat generated from the volcano, of course) so it's always a good advice.
PLease forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is those "bon-mot"s you were referring to? Is it the smiley thingies that I usually overuse everytime I do correspondance of any kind, or were you thinking of something else?
Is it not quite funny how small the world really is? After all, who would have thought that for instance one of my colleagues here, is a friend of the guy that gives me translation tasks for a jokes-site online? Well, I didn't expect that, and neither did anyone else.
And also, funny how you always seem to run into the people that you actually least want to run into when you do a move like that. Hasn't happened to me, but still, it could....
Well, I'm off to do some "work" for a while.
Auf Wiedersehen.

justus jonas Posted Aug 17, 2000
Hmmm, how should i explain what "bon mot" actually means? It's a taken from french, and so it means translated "good word". A "bon mot" is a "geistreiche" expression. Like e.g. "when a head and book bang against each other and it sound empty, it hasn't to be the book in any case".
And I thought about som of your considarations like:
"There is never a time to panic (unless you're hanging over the edge of an erupting volcano, and the only thing to keep you from plunging into the volcano is a fishing line that is about to melt from the heat generated from the volcano, of course)"
or
"...and the pub rounds would ruin a small east-African country."
in your last messages.
I think tomorrow I will cancel my Swedish course and go to Gotland over the weekend. A friend of mine rented a house with some other guys there for two month, to do nothing else but learning for their examn in human-medicin.
The other in the newspaper, that the fuel stations have increasing problems with people who fill in fuel "for free", cause of the high prises. So they probably have to increase the prises.
What strange world this is we were born in
Hejdå, vi skrivers

Aaaah, I see now what you mean by the "bon mot" thing. I'm not really sure how (or even why) I come up with those.. They come pretty naturally to me. I think it could be genetic. I think one reason why I use them is that I want to liven up a message that would have been rather boring had I not used that useless euphemism.
Gotland sounds like a good plan for the weekend. I'm going to do absolutely nothing at all. My flatmate is going down to London and won't be back until late sunday night/early monday morning, so I'll have the whole flat for myself all weekend.. Woohooo..
Have the petrol companies in Sweden finally figured out how to get the pumps to charge more than 10 SEK for a litre of petrol? I know that before I moved over here (or was it when I was home in Sweden in April..?) they complained that they couldn't raise the prices any more, because the pumps only worked up to 9.99 SEK/litre. Funny lot, the petrol companies..
Oh well.. Have fun.

This Gotland-thing is a littlebit difficult now, because the only boat which I could take leaves on Saturday at 18.00, so that you are in Visby at about 21.00.
So I don't know excactly if i should go or not... Perhaps it is hard to find a place to sleep there - the saison is over. Perhaps they even remove the pavement at night...
If you are afraid alone in your flat, whistle to your self, the "wind of change"-theme or something alike, untill your neighbours hunt you down.
For today, i need to explore this city one little bit more.
Så, vi hörs?
have a nice day

Hey there.. I hope you had a good weekend.
I had one of the laziest weekends I've had in a long time. I didn't do anything at all. Marvellous to have those every once in a while.
How did the Gotland-trip go, JJ? Did you go at all, or did you decide to stay in Stockholm and explore a bit more?
I don't really feel like being here today. I didn't get to bed until 2 am this morning, and I had to get up at 6 to get ready for work... I am totally knackered, I tell you.
Well, I guess I'll just endure the day and then get some sleep when I get home..
Have a good one.

Hej Knackare!
IN CASE YOU READ THIS TODAY, PLEASE NOTICE THAT I WRITE "LOUD" TO WAKE YOU UP A LITTLE BIT.
No, förlåt, I am not so cruel, I hate Headache (who doesn't), especially when I haven't got an idea where they come from, and most when I know how I could have avoided them!
Gotland was canceld. Bad Ferryboat conjunktion, unsteady weather, no ceratain place to stay, too expansive - conclusion: I have to go to another "Party" tonight *moan*.
Today starts allso a new interactive Tv-soap, somehow Bigbrother-like, som kallades "BAR". Man tror at det ska finnas en stor framgång.
Hejdå gammalt hus

Hey, Jonas.
I have to say that your Swedish is really, really good. Has the short time you've been in Sweden boosted your knowledge to a degree of almost natively speaking Swedish, or did you cheat??
I have to say that the Finland trip sounds like a blast. Lucky you to have a friend that works for Vikingline. Free trip and a 120 Kr buffet? Nice going, if you ask me.
The only reason I didn't get to bed until 2 am last night was becuase I started watching the Big Brother Omnibus on tv. You know, when they've got all the shows from the past week edited to a "highlights" show. That didn't end until about 1, and then I just couldn't be bothered to get out of the comfy chair I was in, and so I zapped around a bit and found WWF on one of the channels, and that didn't end until about 2 am. That's when I felt that I really, really had to go to bed. So I did.
Paid the price for it today, though...

Hurricane?? Oh, yes, I think I saw something about that on the news the other day.. Everything alright??
lettres des enfants perdus
justus jonas Posted Aug 23, 2000
Hurricane?
That sounds dramatic! In Berlin they had a giant Thunderstorm, with Hagel-Balls big as Dove eggs, my Sister was really Scared - but a Hurricane? Sounds like trouble! Hope you get through!
Swedisch tv seems to be not sooo interesting - no WWF, daför kan man titta på "baren"... ochså "Simpsons" unoverdubt!
Hej, Losti, how do you keep informed about your homeland? The only News about Germany you get here are related to Fashism. Yesterday I bought me "der Spiegel" for 40 SEK! Guess the libraries might have some international Newspapers.
Hejdå - trevlig kväll
Just
