There's also the concept of personalized smileys, like:

8) = smiley with glasses
B) = smiley with big glasses
:D = smiley with big smile
:^) = smiley with big nose
:{) = smiley with mustache
> = smiley with beard

These effects can be combined, as in:

All of the above can, of course, be done with a hyphen for the nose. As a bespectacled user I always use .

well, i haven't heard of twiddling thumbs, but there's always the thinking emoticon: ;-/ also, has anyone ever seen a herman type guy that's kind of peeking over a wall? I see him quite often, but he's too hard for me to figure out.
