An entry I know a lot about! Let us not forget the Botany View Hotel (or BVH) at the south end of King Street, Newtown. Very good food in the bistro and great local bands on Sunday nights (though be warned - mostly country/rockabilly). The ubiquitous pokies are there but hidden in their own room at the back.
There is also the Union hotel down that way - have only been there a few times and it is OK, nothing special. A friend of mine claims it has a great bottle shop for wine though.
The Courthouse isn't as bad as all that, and is a great pub to relax in during the Newtown Festival in the nearby park.
And yes, boycott the Sando!

Nice article.
I drink at Kelly's (th typical irish theme pub) which seems to have the only pub chess board in the area.
They also serve pints ofcourse. Why go up to the bar twice when that double sized glass can save you valuable drinking time.
