A Conversation for An Introduction to The Beatles

NEWS FLASH: McCartney to play at Glastonbury 2000!

Paul McCartney is on the cover of this week's "NME" (Britain's only serious music-related weekly magazine) with his arm round Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays - and despite the age gap, Sir Paul looks by far the healthier of the two!
Inside the "NME" is an account of how McCartney appeared at the mag's annual award ceremony to accept an award, voted on by "NME"'s predominantly under-30 readership, to The Beatles as "Best Band Ever".
The news story goes on to say that the organiser of the Glastonbury Festival, Michael Eavis, approached Macca after the ceremony to ask if he'd play at this summer's festival. Sir Paul is reported to have said that he'd be "delighted" to oblige! smiley - smiley

Sorry, Blue, there's no more news to tell on that front - the story simply said that PMcC had informally accepted Michael Eavis' invitation to appear at next summer's Glasters. But the Glastonbury bill does tend to be revealed slowly, bit by bit, as Spring goes on, so hopefully it'll all be officially confirmed fairly soon. You could also keep checking Macca's website (as listed on this page under "Some fab links") for further updates.
However, I do have more Beatle-related news, which I think deserves a seperate news flash and Conversation! Coming your way in minutes... smiley - smiley

Glastonbury is indeed in a distant south-western corner of England. Still, if Macca is playing there then there must be some chance of him also playing somewhere in the States. Also, the Glastonbury Festival (Britain's biggest) is always extensively covered by BBC TV, so there must be some chance of the footage getting on to US TV in some form. Who knows, there might even be a webcast, as there was for PMcC's show at the Liverpool Cavern last year. I'd say keep looking at Sir Paul's website for news. smiley - smiley

Y'know what? He's got a home around Tucson (where I'm currently attending University), so maybe there's a chance... though more likely he'll leave his home here for some Califonia grass.... smiley - winkeye

On another topic, my dad, who grew up down here, once danced with a beatiful young lady named Linda Eastman. That name ring anyone's bells? If we played 6 degrees of Paul McCartney, it would only take me three degrees smiley - smiley
