While not strictly on topic, I wonder why 'Snickers' was renamed from 'Marathon' and 'M&Ms' from 'Treets'? Does anyone recall 'Mintesers' from the '60s which were 'Maltesers' with a green minty centre? They didn't last long.

They were re-named because the companies wanted
a) to be able to make sponsorship deals with international sports events that would be shown all over the world - so in order for the advertising to be effective the sweets in question had have the same name all over the world. Don't know why they standardised them with the stupid names though - Why not change them all to the lovely sounding Marathon instead of the ridiculous Snickers? Who knows.
b) to be able to cheaply make the packaging abroad without having to change the machines depending on the destination.
