...if I just put the sign on a forum in this guide?
My first actual looking in the morning is not at the toilet but some 55 minutes after I get up and after I have made coffee, eaten something nutritional, turned on the computer and gone on-line.
That's usually when my visualsystem kicks in, not before.
Anyway, would this method work in connection with any kind of job-appliance? I'm currently on the lookout for such a thingy - a job - and I would definitely like to be able to put in my CV that I have remained sane.
Problem is, I'm not to sure about this.
Advice well received but may be subject of ignorance, in particular if sound.

Wow... If my parents had known to give me this treatment when I was growing up, I might be in college going for my PHD right now.
The problem is that bit about believing. How many people out there can say that they are able to just believe something ridiculous on the spur of the moment? A little hard for me, but maybe I don't know the proper technique. Perhaps the author will shed some light on this subject?
On the whole, though, very nice. I'm going to go try it now. Maybe it will help.

It's easy to believe something that you don't already disbelieve. Start with that.
Perhaps that cornchips have no wheat in them. You can believe that.
Then progress to believing that they don't have any corn in them.
And then to believing that eating a cornchip is merely your way of perceiving breathing in the existance that you ACTUALLY inhabit.
Then perhaps that you ARE the cornchip, playing devil's advocate by subjecting yourself to a virtual reality experiment designed to find out why so many of your kind are being eaten.
Then you could imagine that you are a scientist, analysing the data produced by the experiment by perceiving it totally, and that once all the information about the eating of the cornchip has been gathered, you will awaken to your true state again.
And so on....
THIS is why it's important to have the sign. At this stage, I would usually think, "Oooohhh, starting to get pretty messy now. Better sleep."

Well, before you go reading this post, take a nice hard look at the list thing on the left. That shows that this post only has to do with the beginning post. Mainly because I have an idea, but also because I refuse to get involved with the fruits already here.
Good, now that you've taken a nice stare at the left-hand part of your screen, you can read my idea.
I have, as of a few moments ago, made a nice little .bmp file for my desktop that serves as a subsitute for a hardcopy sign. Contact me if you want it.
Oh, it also says "Don't Panic" in fairly large, cornea-searing yellow letters.
On a black background.
Aren't I nice?

*grin* I'll have to try it some time. I liked this article, by the way... wasn't at all difficult to sub-edit, either, which is always nice . Apart from all that GuideMl... *shudder* never touch the stuff, meself. Well, not if I can help it.
Personally, I think sanity is overrated.

In deed you are, but what about your mental stability?
And mine?

What a wonderful idea, surely the best way to impliment the whole "beleive something that is clearly nutz" theory would simply be to work your way up to believing that there is "no such thing as insanity, therefore it is impossible for you to go insane" (thats if i understand the basic principal of this thoery correctly). If i am wrong then i apologise in advance for being an ignorant fool who clearly has no grasp of the reality put before him.

Well, that depends who you ask. Mental stability is comparing your mind to another's and seeing how big of a difference there is. Say you talk two equally loopy people into the same room. They'll talk for a while and, most likely, come to the conclusion that they're the only sane people on the planet. You see, sanity is relitive.
Hopefully a very, very distant one.

I don't think that you can define your sanity by other people's definition of it. Everyone I've met is absolutely, undeniably, batshit.
I think that you can only measure it in terms of your past mental condition. If you can think of a time in the past when you were clearly sane, and there are some fundamental differences in the things that you believed then, as opposed to now, you're a mental pretzel.

If people who claim they are sane are not, are people who claim that they are insane sane? I am pretty sure I am slightly insane. In a harmless, mild-mannered weirdo kind of way.

Catch 22 operates here. And is visiting this crazy place itself evidence of insanity?

The Cow Posted Jan 10, 2000
If you are worried about your sanity, I think you must be a bit insane. I'm not worried... I think I just am insane. Well, not insane. Just wierd.

If sanity were on a scale of 1 to 10, I am a contant 7.
'Yes' and 'No' keep swapping sides, but I remain a 7.

If sanity was on a scale of one to ten, I would be 6i [the square root of -6]. (sorry, techjoke)

Gildor Posted Jan 11, 2000
If sanity were rated on a scale of one to ten, seven being the most insane, I've been told that I rate as a 14.
Only Dog knows what that means, and he ain't telling me.

The Cow Posted Jan 12, 2000
Who is dog? A U no would be useful to know who you are talking about.

The Cow Posted Jan 12, 2000
Anyway, what he probably means is that you are WAY off the scale. The scale [1..10] has already got room for more-insane-than-possible [8,9,10] and you are off even that!
Welcome to the club.

I leave the forum for two days and look! It's gotten to the 1-10 scale point already! You guys must be quite a few bits short of a byte if it moves this fast!
Oh, and I seem to drift somewhere between a 3 and an 8.
I think my sanity depends inversely on the amount of caffine I've had on any particular day.
The more, the nuttier, as I always say!
