'The Matrix' - the Film
Researcher Lensirhc Started conversation Aug 24, 2001
It has been rumoured that 'The Matrix' is jut the first in a trilogy of films, thus the the feeling that it should still go on for another hour.
Can you really belive that a film producer would end one of the most controversial, kick-ass movies of all time like they did. Of course they are going to try and sap every last cent out of the Matrix franchise.

We'll have to wait until 2003. Unfortunately.

which, when you think about it, is not that far really. We've already passed the half year mark, and before you know it, the Oscars will be on again, hence marking the arrival of some bad and then utterly groovy movies!

I haven't actually seen the second one yet, but from what I've seen, it hasn't been getting very good reviews - from academics at least.
Where the first one was all about philosophy, the second is more of an action film, with the same recycled philosophy - nothing new...
Not saying that as action film is bad, but the fact that they made a sequel to something that could have remained as a stand alone film, is silly to me - they do that to so many films nowadays....
Legally Blonde 2 - Red White and Blonde
Charlies Angel's 2 - Full Throttle
2 Fast 2 Furious
XXX 2
etc.
Not saying that any of these were very good films (well, I liked the first two's predecessors) but the fact that these were made as stand alone films, and just because they made money, they feel compelled to make a sequel. They don't understand that sequels are a fine art. There is a fine line they have to tread, and most do sink miserably....it just should not be done unless it's written as a sequel...
Lord of The Rings
Harry Potter
X Men
etc.
Any views anyone??
PS - I will be going to see Matrix tomorrow hopefully...

I've seen it twice now
but my opinion differs from that of most reviewers.
Yes, it's wordy, has lots of corny dialogue and a few scenes that drag on too long (ex. the temple scene), but on the whole I left the theater with good vibes and an urge to run up a wall.
In the philosphy section, some nice points are made. It's not nitzche by far, but one can't really expect tremendously deep philosphy from a modern hollywood blockbuster.
I consider the movie from a stand-alone viewpoint to be pretty good on it's own. In contrast to some really bad sequels I've seen in the past, it ranks right up there with the Two Towers.
It truly excels in the action department, especially during the highway scene (which is well worth the ticket price to see on the big screen). The editing in the final segment is really interesting, as well. The fights are impressive and well-coreographed (hats off to wo ping) and the special effects are fantastic. I especialy enjoy neo's flying ablities- I wish I could do that!
Be sure to wait until the end of the credits- it's worth it!

FTF - don't get me wrong! I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with an action film, but just the fact that it was a deeply philosophically rooted film (the first one) that to do a spin-off on it without that continuation of philosophy is a bit strange.
I like action films - nice fast pace, senseless destruction of property, etc...(has anyone seen "The Transporter" [2002, Louis Leterrier & Corey Yuen]? It's quite groovy!!!)...
but "Reloaded" is not something that I wish to be just a plain action film...I want that continuation of philosophy that attracted me to it in the first place. I still haven't managed to see it yet!!! Hopefully tomorrow night...

NOOO!!!!!!!!!!
It was my birthday on Sunday, so I wasn't able to go this weekend (there was some serious drinking to do!! )
But hopefully sometime soon!!! I don't think i can handle waiting any longer! I'm a film student that doesn't have time to watch films because of study. Go figure the logic in that!!!

Oh!!! (no, I still haven't seen it yet) but I'm probably going to see it this weekend - it's a long weekend here, so movie marathons are on, and one of them is The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded, Animatrix. So I think I'll go to that - would be groovy to watch the first one on the big screen again!!!

my goodness!!! I feel old now...
Guess what? I went to the movie marathon, meaning I have now seen Reloaded! YAY!!!
It's not that good actually. I was quite disappointed with it. I did like the idea of the 'doors' (ie. different programming levels) nice idea, but not incorporated very well though. Trinity "dying" thing was a bit silly as well. Though it was good to see "The Matrix" on the big screen again!
