ah for once an article that almost talks sense - one thing I'd criticise though - Music is NOT subjective - it is simply organised sound/silence - what IS subjective is our response to it - again music is NOT part of us - but we have an inbuilt capacity to react to music - much in the same way as we have the capacity to see and interpret somethng as "beautiful".
As you say though - it is just bashing rocks together, when it all comes down to it
