Oh, I loved his Synclavier noodlings, particularly "Francesco Zappa"

That's one I've never heard. I thought it was a classical piece. Isn't that the one that has the album cover with the cartoon type drawing of a dog in a suit.

Yep.
Frank used different timbres and samples than are normally expected.
Since the Synclavier allowed him to compose and hear what a larger or more intricate piece might sound like, he spent years playing with it and only cranked out two albums, Jazz From Hell and Francesco Zappa that mostly involved his Synclavier work.
As far as I know, although he used the Synclavier in post-production and some rhythm tracks on a few albums, he didn't take it on the road or use it live.

It is "classical" up to a point, but then so are most of his orchestral pieces.

actually, the cover is a painting by Donald Roller Wilson, who did one other Zappa cover, also involving a dog and clothing. I forget which one that was.

I think the album featuring a dog in clothing might be Them And Us,but am not 100% sure whether I'm right about it.

FZ also did a couple of classical based albums with the London Symphony Orchestra who also featured in the soundtrack to 100 Motels.

You mean the couple conducted by Boulez?
The Perfect Stranger or some such?

Yes,I think they may have been conducted by Boulez but the title The Perfect stranger is new to me.Have only listened to Frank's L.S.O. volume 2 and doesn't ring any bells from that album.
