A Conversation for Butterfly Bushes

Butterfly Bush - Nanho Purple

I would like to obtain some knowledge on how to obtain seeds from the above-mentioned plants, as one of my three got wet feet and seemed to really die this year. Poor thing is transplanted now, but I don't know if it's salvageable. I have put three completed flower spikes upside down in a plastic bag to see if I can draw some seeds out...Can someone suggest my next step...and do I try and raise them indoors for the rest of this year?

John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

Hi there. I've had success growing Buddleia from seed simply by tapping seed onto a sheet of paper and sowing it directly into shallow pans in the late winter, then covering it lightly with a little finely seived potting medium. The seed is very fine, like dust. They don't seem to be terribly fussy. smiley - smiley

It's really easy to 'strike' butterfly bushes. Take hardwood cuttings in the autumn, and it wii soon produce roots.
