are you sure it's York, i didn't know it was in North Yorkshire, county hall is in Northallerton, i was allways led to belive that it was also the county town, maybe it was a secret. :p
rest of the article i agree to, we are the biggest and the best so we do deserve so much more, like a special day for instance.. :o

Northallerton is the 'administrative centre' of the spurious county of 'North Yorkshire'. York is the county town of the (real!) county of Yorkshire

Ahhh..not quite.
Northallerton is the county town of the North Riding of Yorkshire;
Wakefield is the county town of the West Riding of Yorkshire;
Beverley is the county town of the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The City of York has never been the county town of Yorkshire. The City and County of York (a county borough) sat at the junction of the three ridings, but in none of them.
