great piece! Colossus was the product of both imaginative and task-oriented minds from several countries, who each contributed in their own ways. and then there was this silicon chip....

Silicon is NEW!

I remember working on the IBM SMS Computer system. They had cards. Each 4"x3" card (printed circuit with discrete electronic components)had two transistor gates on it and there were lots of them. The silicon chip was a blessing. At least a PC didn't take up a large, air-conditioned room.
