You did offer Fiddler, but nobody responded to you. I think it would be great if you took care of the addition and stuff and did the league table stuff - is that what you offered?

It shouldn't be too complex. I've organised it so it's only an entry in one of these sorts of threads.

I would imagine that when the votes have been cast you would take off your mittens (to reveal the natural counting devices found at the ends of your arms) add them up and write them down on an old envelope.

You then have the honour of announcing the winning word (which goes into the appropriate thread).

You then enter the first league places into the League thread. I would suggest we award points for the top three Telegrams in the same manner: 3 for first overall, 2 for second and 1 for third. So if PLayer A comes first, B comes second and C comes third it would look like this:

1 Player A - 3 points
2 Placer B - 2 points
3 Player C - 1 point
All Other players yet to score.

Then, when the next voting takes place, you would add in the new points and (if this was the new game result - Player B first, Player C second and player D third) the table would look like this:

1 Player B - 5 points
2= Player A - 3 points
2= Player C - 3 points
4 Player D - 1 point
All other players yet to score. (NB as a quick check make sure the point total divides by 6)

Something else to think about is whether you would want another column to record how many winning words a player has had, with most winning words being the decider if we ever had a tied position at the end of the league.

Also how long before the voting closes? A weekend, 24 hours? Suggestions please.
Also I understood that you were organising the word? Forgive me if I mis-understood. It is just that if the game closes on a friday, when voting starts, and voting continues until monday, then the winner cannot advise on the new word til tuesday, assuming they are around then.

Can you see the problem?

The beauty of the new system (apart from the players) is that the functions have now been separated.
Word Picking:
We have a word picker. Who will put forward the word between 0001 and 0600 on Friday mornings (GMT)
We don't have to know the winner of the previous word for the next word to be put out.
Scoring:
The draft rules state that play stops at noon on Thursday (GMT) and voting takes place for a daysworth (24 hours) at which point the counter (your kind self) will add up the points and declare the winner at your convenience over the weekend or whatever.
League Table:
The League table can be produced later on if there is tight time pressure .

Yes. The simplicty of the new system is that everything can be done via the reply button making a central controller redundant.

Has everyone who was on the old thread followed us to this one? Also since we're not on Ask anymore we may have to advertise more to attract new participants. I was thinking of adding something to my screen name for a while but I'm not sure what to add. Also maybe putting a link in my PS. Any other ideas?

Maybe we could put messages in old players personal space to tell them abou the move and the changes.

I suppose it could be politely mentioned to people on 'your friends' list. However be careful not to upset the PeTeBes. I am also thinking that a week may be too long between words, at present. The 'Restart' word was poorly subscribed to, and once participants have entered their two words, they cannot participate, until the 24 hour voting chedule turns up. Ideas would be good.

It wasn't very easy to get here, required a lot of reading and patience, especially for people who have more watched than participated on the former thread.
I was too late for the first word, but will try to keep up with the future ones
A week is fine with me, though, don't know about the other participants

For future eventualities it might be a good idea for players to put telegram_sam on their friends list. Then, if we need to contact anyone at a moment's notice we can just put something in the journal and everyone will get it at the same time.
If I ever have to leave hootoo I will try and pass telegram_sam on to someone else.
