for my birthday just before Xmas I got a food processor and a pestle and mortar so I have no excuses for not preparing wonderful meals now

the show was Frasier, the characters name was Dr Frasier Crane, and I think the actors surname was Kersey but I'm not sure, liked that show

Hi. Happy New Year everybody. I dunno if Turanna had snow on Xmas. Two nights before, the heavens descended and I could not have dragged my suitcase to the train station if I was so inclined (which I was not) so was happy to see the bus pull up with its blue lights blinking through the pale haze. The snow was deep and bright everywhere. By the time I got back, everything had predictably melted again, the sky had returned to its morose blinding grey, and it had warmed up to barely tolerable.
Ottawa did not disappoint. It had already piled up with snow weeks ago, being further north. That night it had rained and everything was black ice. My friends had moved to a place beside the Rideau River. Quite gorgeous, looking through the black branches at the winding ice and dachshunds trying to figure out a way to pee in drifts way higher than their noses. But so cold. The cold sits on the land like a psychopath, longing to embarrass the weak-kneed. But no, one more winter has come and not seen me give way. Boots undone, toque donned, and coat unbuttoned, I held the banner high for those whose only other heroes have been snatched away by the hockey lockout. Hosers forever!
Everyone got a copy each of Noelle Harrison's first book 'Beatrice.' Quite jolly, there being many references to actual family stories. And we spent some time watching Pride and Prejudice and that British serial about the country hospital in the 50s. I must say I like that hospital show and the other one about the police station. I just can't figure out how to get it on my tv. Or maybe its always on at the same time as CSI.
People are getting married: my friends oldest son -- and my own! Happy days! Both in early summer.
I am back. It's raining. It's been raining for days. I suppose I have to make a New Year's resolution. This year the only one that comes to mind is:
B R I N G B A C K H O C K E Y !

sounds like you had a good Xmas
envious of all your snow but i expect if I was there I'd complain about the cold or something
hadn't noticed there wasn't any hockey, is it safe to say that

No. I don't think it is safe. Actually there is an eerie silence on the subject. No one here even mentions the 'h' word. Just the odd beer commercial or banking commercial with the odd epilogues 'bring back hockey.'
