Reading this is interesting... I never had any uncles, not one to my name... My brother was a wonderful uncle to our (my sisters' and my) sons.

Congratulatins, BC - you're an uncle! That's great! (My question was of course from the old Irish joke... Apologies to those who had never heard it...)

Congratulations on your new nunclehood. Gothly and I will be experiencing a similar state of being sometime in January.

Congratulations !
Being an uncle is the best, especially if it's a little boy. I have two nephews, and as much as they love their aunties, they absolutely *adore* their uncles !
And of course being an uncle or aunt has many advantages over being a parent...you never have to yell at them, leave all the hard work to the parents and you can be the cool uncle (of course cool aunty was already taken by my sister, so I had to be crazy aunty ...oh well, I think it suits me )
I don't really know what a good gift idea is though...bunny rugs never go astray with new babies...??

Something like that for baby and a bottle of wine for mum?
I should think she'll be sick of flowers and by now

Congratulations, BC!
The best bit is that it's just going to keep getting better from your point of view too; my oldest neice is thirteen now, and she just keeps getting cooler.

Recieving blankets, diapers, maybe bottles, a newborn size pacifier, maybe some baby fingernail clippers! Stuff they need, and they'll use!

All sensible stuff Scandrea but my mums been collecting all that sort of thing for the last 6 months and has it pretty much covered
Something for the baby shouldn't be too hard, but I think my sister deserves at least 1 treat (and don't worry Tanzen, my sis is the sensible one )

For baby, get him a book (it's never too young to start - even if it's just a board or bath book.)Or - a large stuffed toy - little ones can't hold small things, can't hold anything for a while...
For his mother, get her something that will make her feel not too Mumsy - hey, another book! Something not too demanding though, because for the first three months, she'll be too sleep-deprived to concentrate on things...
