I should think every Cantabrian's New Year wish was for a calmer 2012.

It's not got off to a great start, that's for sure.

We've had 27 earthquakes in the last 9 1/2 hours (since 1.30am); the largest a double-whammy of two 5.5 magnitudes just 12 seconds apart. What sleep was possible was fitful and expectant.

So I'm gazing at my computer through a haze of exhausted headache and bleary eyes.

Enough. Enough.

Yesterday (Monday) was one of those days when I'm exhausted from tense sleeplessness and consequently question my sanity to stay here. And reading your posts soothed and lifted my spirits.

Things have quietened down a wee bit and I slept like the proverbial log last night - unaware of a couple of good thumps which would usually wake me. Today I'm feeling more upbeat and confident about my place in the world. Good friends, good coffee and good food will get me through

Today I shall be re-establishing my art room because I feel the need to let my brain disappear into a canvas. It'll be interesting to see whether I end up doing something jagged and violent, or something gentle and curvy I'm not sure which needs an outlet the most... I'll let you know.

Thank you again. Your friendships through thick and thin are precious.

The painting is turning out interesting Lots of big brush-work and bold colours... and it's shaping up into something I like already

Hyp: I have moments/hours of wondering why the I still live here, immediately after bigger quakes (5.8+). Then I manage to get some sleep and rearrange my brain again and once more I can't imagine where else I'd want to be. Crazy? Perhaps.
