I saw the local production of Witches of Eastwick today where we will be perfrming Nutcracker in a couple of weekend's time. It was very good The chap playing Daryl Van Horne was clearly having a great time with the powerfully manipulative and charismatic character (he also had a few tricks up his sleeve (literally)). One of the Witches had a disconcerting resemblance to Jennifer Aniston - it was the hair mostly. The only flying scene lasted a couple of minutes , but there were three of them in the air at once , and dressed much more kinkily than I was as Marley

Sounds fantastic, Pimms!
Your Masks entry looks ready for PR too - haven't read it in depth but it looks good to me.

Well, Pimms, you caught me lurking again. You are so clever.
So you have branched out into masks now? I am impressed.
As for Hyp's talents, she is actually a very good speaker. (I really think she could act too, if she just decided to give it a try.)

Good Evening, Lady Chattingly. Are you also from the American sticks?

From the American Sticks? I was born and raised there, but now live in the plains.........tornado alley to be exact! Scary thought, isn't it?

I didn't catch you LC - you stood and showed yourself.
Found out at the rehearsal last night the schedule for the final few rehearsals. A run through with the Russians on Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon in the ballet studio, then (as far as my part is concerned) tech and dress rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday before the first performance on the Friday, with two performances on the Saturday.
Every rehearsal brings some extra bit of action required from me. Last night I found I had to carry off one of the 'dolls' Drosselmeyer winds up. Last week it was carrying on hobby horses and carrying off Clara at the end.
Tried on a tail coat and volunteered to sew the buttons back on that the Wardrobe mistress had removed in error. I will have to supply my own shoes and white stockings. I'll dig out an old pair of buckled shoes I have and buy a pair of opaque white tights from the local dance shop.
The painted Mouse King mask went down well when tried by the dancer in her costume. Already half-finished the alterations still wanted to it - inside painted black, eyebrows given pale highlight below browline, outside speckled (using Gnomon's toothbrush technique from his acrylics entry ) to make it more natural. Just need to get some silver pipe cleaners for whiskers (to match those on the other mouse costumes), touch up any imperfections and varnish it now

Lots of good stuff here, with the Witches (I love the 'Dirty Laundry' number) and the mask. Is Clara heavy?
Will you have to shave your legs for tights-wearing purposes?

Pimms Posted Jan 31, 2006
Dirty Laundry was the best ensemble number in Witches of Eastwick, lots of rubber gloves and waving of yellow dusters in this production.
The tights will be opaque rather than sheer, so shaving will be unneccessary. They are to simulate stockings worn below the knee of white breeches. I have found in the past that stockings worn as part of a costume (as opposed to tights) tend to sag and wrinkle unless held up. I resorted to wearing a lacy black garter belt to hold up the black stockings beneath my breeches when I played the Beadle in Sweeney Todd , which those sharing the dressing room thought somewhat kinky.

lol. Why cant you use regular non-costume tights for stockings? There are opaque ones out there.
Lady C, if she's the younger cuter one, that would make you the older cleverer one. (I've got a younger cuter sister too... )

I wonder what the audience would have thought had they known that the Beadle was wearing stockings and a lacy garter belt!!!

I think the lacy garter belt sounds.........lacy. Actually, it sounds pretty inventive to me. Who is to know what kind of apparatus holds up a Beadle's stockings?
Kind of like what is or is not under a Scotsman's kilt...........

...his legs, of course, Lady C!
I have a younger sister, who is (unsurprisingly) cuter than me. That must make me the older, cleverer brother.

But, of course, that makes you the older, cleverer brother, David.
However in my case, I think Hyp is probably cleverer too.
Oh, I made good grades in school, but she did better. However, I'll bet I had more fun!!
