Know what y'mean jollywinegums, I'm out of touch with 85 to 90% of todays music. I looked at the schedule for this & The Police were the only group I was genuinely interested in seeing!

Oh god, not again. I'll copy the post I just made on the Glasto forum:
'I think you're missing the point: today was about raising awareness. Any carbon expelled today is as nothing to that which could be saved in the long term if the message gets through.'

It's heartening that people around the world are being made more aware of what they can do to slow global warming.Hard to effect when it's the people with most money who are the worst offenders. One does get used to a certain standard of living very quickly. And are reluctant to give it up.

Sorry Roy! I'm sort of divided on it all, i think maybe i get a bit cynical when i see the names "Bono" & "Sting" appear, if either of those bods were to actually show me just how much of their fortunes they really & truly donate, i would be happier.
I think the music stuff itself is brill, i am all for concerts for whatever reason & yes, i do get the point about saving the planet obviously (i probably have an extremely low carbon footprint personally)but i also think it's a valid point that massive concerts cost a fortune to put on. Someone suggested maybe a better way would have been a whole load of acoustic gigs, sort of "Earth Unplugged"; which seems like a fantastic idea.

The Earth Unplugged would have been lovely but wouldn't have had the impact. Personally I love a bit of acoustic stuff but many more people like a bit of a show than a bit of thoughtful introspection, though the latter would undoubtedly be more appropriate.

I agree, obviously we don't represent the mainstream. *shrugs* Hmm nice version of American Woman here, with a sax solo - ah yes Lenny Kravitz,(he covered it).

Hmm; i know what you mean. maybe a compromise: One huge gig but thousands of other Unplugged ones, like the Nirvana Unplugged, all linked up to the main gig on a big screen & on TV, so the big gig would have bands that had not flown there so couldn't be accused of wasting resources, the Unplugged gigs could maybe take place in the area the now famous globally groups originally came from; ie "hey, you can have a great time without actually going too far from your own front door!"
A bit like the "FĂȘte de la Music" we have every year here in France, where anyone & everyone takes to the streets & makes music, all totally free & often used to get political messages across. But on a global scale like Live Earth.
It wasn't actually publicised very well, i only found out a couple of days back via BBC News, Viking didn't know about it at all until tonight, yet watches Tv constantly.

The Police played here Wednesday night, at Wrigley Field. Made getting home from work a bit of a chore. We could've watched from a rooftop vantage point, but really, why bother?
Unfortunately, we did miss a cool gig last night, and will miss my all-time favorite band this coming Tuesday.

Hi PC...yes they played here in early June. But I missed that...I'm not as into the 'huge crowd' thing as I once was. That said, I may attend one or two days of http://www.edmontonfolkfest.org ...we'll see.

Looks like the party is finally over and all the guests are sleeping off their s and various other frenetic activities...... I don't know who is going to cean up Terris place. Is their enough room in the rubbish bin for all the empties? And who used Yoda's kitty litter tray as an ashtray...
