Amazing how you can master h2g2 in a matter of months, meet the community, write entries, ask questions, give answers - and you can still be surprised by it after years smiley - smiley Why else would we have regulars from way back in 1999?

Incredible that h2g2's been around five years, eh? I look forward to celebrating h2g2's sixth birthday next year... and I'm firmly convinced I'll still be here.

Downright amazing. smiley - smiley

Indeed - isn't it amazing? smiley - smiley
There are many sites on the Internet which have brilliant success, and many which have failed miserably. I hold h2g2 to be a brilliant role model for any site which is based on its community - it's done all this, without even a single banner, popup, or other advertising tactic (well, there is the top banner, and pre-BBC there were adverts, but not so intrusive as those you'd find on some Netster page for instance) in sight.

smiley - cheers, h2g2! And here's to another semi-decade of Hootooness! smiley - biggrin

And by the way - congratulations on a fantastic ADDTHREADINTRO. By far the greatest use of the MARQUEE tag I've seen in ages. smiley - biggrin

I'm sure the entire city of Dayton, Ohio joins Jodan in wishing h2g2 a happy birthday. It's the kind of place that would do something like that. If you don't believe me, go visit Dayton and see for yourself.

aka, you're very right. And the Add Thread Intro had better be good... it took me ages to perfect! smiley - winkeye

Quite a shame... I couldn't post this for about 10 minutes after I wanted to. smiley - erm

I'm sure it's just clogged up with people giving their best wishes to h2g2 smiley - winkeye

Sure an ad for a city. Las Vegas does it occasionally.

Dayton, and Nighton, and Evenington as well. smiley - winkeye

Jodan, I'd like to ask if you were on board in 1999? If so, you'd be a bit earlier than me.

Also, I'm seeing references to the demise of someone named Bels. This isn't someone I knew. Could you tell me a little about Bels?

I came here in early 2003... smiley - erm Relatively new in fact. You're definitely an older hooter than I.

Bels U188050 was someone who wrote contributed a lot to h2g2 - in the forums and in the EG. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer in May, and passed away this week. See F19585?thread=277219.

I didn't know him as well as I'd have liked to, but what I did see of him was a great and intelligent person.

I can't remember whether I came in 2000 or 2001.

Cancer is a horrible way to go! smiley - sadface It seems to run in families. I know a man who lost three of his children to brain tumors. smiley - yikes He's had to help raise some of his grandchildren.
