I just threaten the computer with a re format... to linux.

if you don't update it regularly (very easy to do and you can even set it to update automatically) you're also missing out on new security fixes though..
if you use Internet Explorer all you need to do is go to Tools ---> Windows Update and it will check your computer for updates automatically and let you know..

BTW when you scan for updates all you *need* are the ones called hot fixes or security updates.. the rest are only useful for limited things..
