Guess who came to dinner........

Well, it's been a pretty horrible year for our family. We've had a lot of death and some serious health problems kicking around - we just seemed to lurch from one disaster to another in 2008, but it was all turned around on Boxing day.
My nephew's wife was due their first baby on 22nd December but the little mite had the good manners to wait until all the Christmas day stuff was done and dusted .... then she went into serious action on Boxing Day morning. They trotted off to hospital yesterday morning at 9.00 and little baby Martha arrived at 11.00am, a healthy 7lbs. They were all home again aby 8.00pm last night and the rest of us got to meet Martha and give her a cuddle.
It's amazing what a lift a new baby can give to the tired old festivities .... she is gorgeous, just like a little doll - but she makes me a great-aunt for the 9th time .... and that makes me really old.
I'm so full of joy I could burst.

YAY!
I think a few of us have had a bad run in 2008, so it's wonderful when we hear some good news like this!
All the best to Martha and the family - and I'm chuffed for you, Fizzy!
Oh, and tell your nephew's wife she's lucky - my niece was due to have her first on the same day - and she's still waiting!

Merry just after Christmas and happy just before the New Year to you Hoggy and your lovely family.
I hope you had a good one and brought loads of stuff for the girls.

We had an interesting one - half of it was spent sat round the Father-In-Law's hospital bed - but he's well on the mend, and it was a jolly affair, rather than the usual "sit in silence, wondering what to say" sort of hospital visit.
The girls have had a great time, Kitty is thrilled with Torchwood DVD's, we've hardly seen her since, and Cheeky got a "Come outside" DVD (a kids tv programme) - and was so happy with it, she was actually crying! They've also got loads of money, rather than presents, so they can go and have fun in the sales! Gosh, I'm looking forward to that!
We're off to my sister's house for dinner now - oh, and while we're there, there's a few programs she wants me to install on her new laptop... and can I show her how it works... and how to get this and that running on it... and.... etc etc...
All the best to you and yours Fizzy, and if I don't catch up with you between now and then, here's hoping for a fresh new, healthy 2009!

Thank you Moonhogg and I hope you lot have the best time today.
I hope I'll catch you somewhere before 2009 but if not - have a great one and survive the sales.

Guess who *ELSE* came to dinner........

Those of you who made it to the first Hull Meet will remember talk of my niece, Sarah, who works at the hotel.
Well, she was due to have her first child on December 23rd. That came and went. She got as far as the 29th, when the hospital decided that if she hadn't delivered by January 1st, they would take her in to be induced.
On New Year's Night she was at her Mum's where they were having one of those "Murder Mystery" nights. Late on in the evening, she went to my sister complaining of tummy ache.
"Are you sure it's tummy ache?"
- "Oh yes... it sort of.. comes.. and goes..."
"How often?"
- "About every 20 minutes... . . . OH!!!!!"
She took her time, but at 2am on January 2nd, baby James was born, weighing in at a chunky 9lb 8 1/2oz (4.32kg for those who work in Metric).
All are healthy, and The Missus is somewhat eager to get round and have a cuddle... she's going to get into her broody mood again!!
