Well, those of you who have been reading my journals for the past few years will be aware that strange things tend to happen when I leave the house.
Tonight was no exception.
Being wildly organised we decided to hit a local shopping mall to get a bit of Christmas Shopping - and that part of the evening went fairly well .... I didn't even fall or anything.
When we returned to the car the yer man needed to use the bank machine, so daughter and I decided to walk little Elphie who had been patiently waiting for us in the car for about an hour.
We put a lead on her and walked up towards the entrance (one of many) the one yer man had headed for ..... there was quite a queue at the machine (which was in the entrance hall) so we walked along the side of the building hoping that Elphie would have a pee ....
As we rounded the corner daughter whispered to me 'Are they breaking-in to that car'?
I looked over and there was a Peugot parked alongside a sporty Nissan - sure enough one lad had broken the rear sidelight and was reaching in to open the driver's door.
'No' I said ... 'they've locked themselves out'. We then walked back the way we'd come.
I didn't want to cause a fuss because the last bloke that did that over here was buried 72 hours later having been stabbed in the head with a screwdriver.
When we rounded the bend I told daughter to get security quickly .... and tell her Dad - still in the queue for the bank.
While she ran for help .... I walked back round with the and memorised the registration number of the Peugot - which was poised for a quick getaway.
The theives were obviously getting suspicious of me and my by this time, and they still hadn't managed to reach the driver's door handle to get the door opened, so they took fright and bolted in their little Peugot .... just as security, daughter and yer man were rounding the corner.
Well, the owner of the car was delighted that they hadn't caused any more damage than a broken window, the police came and took details of the reg and it all ended reasonably well.
The kid was confused because she told security that two fellas were trying to steal a car or had got locked out of it you see she always believes her Mum.
We had to explain to her that sometimes discretion is the better part of valour and it's always best to seek help.

last Wednesday my son had just started his shift at morrisons, when a call came out, alarm at cash desk..blood all over, one person had jumped out of a car, attacked security man with cash box handcuffed to his wrist, this person had a rambo type knife and tried to cut his hand off, to get the cash box. My son said he had to have 2 operations, but had not heard anything else as yet

Thanks Prof and FF.
MMF ... I'd usually be much the same - but that's very dangerous nowadays - having a go I mean - not sticking on my chest.
Yer man's always telling me not to butt in - but what can I say - a butt like mine is hard to miss.
I couldn't in all conscience let anything like that pass me by - but since I had the child with me I wasn't about to risk us being hit by the getaway car.
I like to think anyone would have done the same.

You see, this is why I think I should be allowed to carry a gun and shoot anyone I don't like the look of...and people who drive stupidly.....and people who like cats. They're NOT pets, they're vermin! They're like furry pidgeons, excepting that pidgeons don't try and sneak into your house and $h!t

House arrest ..... dangerous, I have been known to cause serious injury to myself in the house.
TB, you'd fit right in over here ..... ever considered a move to Belfast.
A couple of years ago a serial car thief was caught in one of the estates ..... the boys that caught him ........... nailed him to a fence then called the police to come pick him up.
Not much of a car theft problem around there anymore.

Good work, Fizzy!
I have to say that I find remarks about carrying a gun and shooting people you don't like the look of to be in extremely poor taste, even in jest. Thankfully, I live in an area where it's illegal to own or carry a gun outside of professional law enforcement.
While those boys nailing that fellow to a fence (as long as he wasn't injured in the process) is pretty darn funny, vigilantism is dangerous, Fizzy, so I'm glad you didn't try to stop them and instead sent for help!
