And on and on it goes...
My mom (who lives with me) fell while walking across the front lawn on Friday evening. Her arm swelled so we went to the emergency room (2 blocks from our house). Found out she broke one of her left ribs and her right wrist. They put a splint on the arm - but they can't do anything about the rib - it just heals on it's own.
Then to add insult to injury - she broke out in hives from either the pain killer (hydrocodone) or the anti-inflammatory (Celebrex) and had to stop taking both on Saturday evening. Which means that yesterday (Sunday) she was in a lot of pain and not very mobile.
She can sleep in her bed (she can't get up with the bad rib) so she's been sleeping in the reclining chair, but she can't push it back up to get out of in on her own, so I set my alarm for every two hours last night to see if she had to get up to go to the bathroom or anything.
And today I'm draggin... But she's feeling better today, can get out of the chair on her own and I take her to get the cast put on the arm tomorrow.

Thanks Lady S.!
I hope I can wait until I get home this evening to get more rest - instead of in the car while driving home...

Sorry to hear it!!
She could take a pain pill with an antihistimine. Benadryl or such.
Celebrex is very dangerous for the heart!
Speaking from experience, as our parents age/move twoard the light, etc..
I find there are a few things we "children" must have.
A sleeping area for them//her/him
A way for them to wash up
A place for every one to have privacy
A baby monitor
Please tell you mum Pan sends her kindest regards for a better tomorrow!
And happy Valentine's Day!

My mother and father, being frail-elderly, have been a source of concern for the last 6 years now. And yet, they continue to live on their own, and usually they need very little extra help. They must have been doing *something* right.

Hope they had fun!!! And or are having fun.
On the 21st of this month it will be 13 years since me mother 'went across the river'. And pop's been gone since 2001. Mama always warned me I'd not have them around in my later years. They liked to party. They always said you had to die from something, may as well be while having a good time!
Mom had the good humor to drop dead fairly quick. I took care of dad in his home until he didn't know which way was up. He'd made me promise to put him in The Veteran's Home when he got that way. He said they owed it to him. (Navy AirCorp) And what a lovely place it was! Swans and peacocks all over the place! I woulda' loved to live there.
Seems odd that so many friends have parents as well as grandparents.
I'm getting old.
Yeah ... I'm getting old.
Very cool.

I can tell you from personal experience that the one thing your mother does NOT want to have to do at the moment is sneeze! Many years ago I had two broken ribs and the pain of a sneeze was excruciating.

Thanks all! s
She's actually been in more pain the last couple of days as she couldn't take the anti-inflammatory and the pain pills - not knowing which was causing her to break out into hives. When I left for work this morning she was crying because her rib was really hurting her. . But the doctor gave her a new prescription for pain pills yesterday, and she took more of them this morning and by 10:30 the rib had stopped hurting.
May aunt and uncle (who are retired) came up from Grand Lake (in Oklahoma) and took her back home with them. They'll play nursemaid to her for the next 2-4 weeks. They don't have any stairs at their house, so she should be more comfortable. She was very apprehensive about the 3.5 hour drive down there - as much as her rib had been hurting this morning. But she called me at 5:30 this evening and said they arrived okay, and the rib did fine the whole trip.
So finally - I get an entire nights sleep! Um... well, I could if I were sleepy but I'm not which is why I'm here on hootoo at 2:02 am!
I think I better go to bed... 6:00 am will come awfully early this morning!
