Hello,

At the moment, , I feel sad, I'm coming to a time in my life when I should be enjoying myself to some extent and yet I've locked myself in with a job. I feel like I've settled to fast, and having heard all the experances of every one else ,

I'm not sure what to do, I want to get this out of me, I want to go to Uni see what it's like, but I know I can't go. I want to beable to meet new people, and I can't (without going to quite some lengths), perhaps I'm just being silly. tepidation has never held too well with me when it comes to burning questions. and these are the kind that effect your whole life. (although doing sky dives would probly be no problem).

Tell me what you think, even if it's negative.

Why can't you go to University?

Generally the "experiences" as you call them, of us lot of the same age as your good self (even if I am 6 days yonger than you) are not all they are cracked up to be. Mostly becasue no one can remember them the next morning. If you are making money now you are much more likely to be able to do what you want to do in the future. The rest of us will be drowning in debt for at least the next 5 years.

At the end of the day, loathed as I am to have to use that phrase, what you do is entirely up to you, but don't rush into quitting or whatever just cos it doent feel right at the minute.

Oh yea I can just see my application form... Qualifcations: [N/A], Its posible I may just be luky with this job, I was having a moan in general. I feel like I'm not getting anywere, career wise, It's probly a good move to stay put, but I'd prefere not to end up as a 40 year old hermit.

If you want to go to university badly, you could do some courses part time at your local fe college

Well I concider my options, Halton Callege is a grungy place, and I've already been. It's not worth the effort to get up to do that kind of thing. they only give you silly bits of paper, and if thats what it takes, forget it. I'm not that desperate.

I can probly find somewere else.

Of course there isn't any need to go and study courses to get A levels. I know a couple of people who studied independantly, then put themselves in for the exam independantly.
Of course they were very self motivated to do this, basically I think they followed the curriculum from the A level examination board that they wanted to go with, then just sat the exam...

That sounds like a hell of a lot of extra work for three years of student debt.

Well, that would just be to get hte 'A' levels, to allow a university enterence, if that is the route you wanted to go. Which you don't need to do. Most, or certainly a lot, of Universitys do four year long BSc/Ba courses, with the first year being to catter for those who might not have studied A levels, or not achieved suitible grade at A level.
And, the student debt from doing the degree, should be catered for by the hgiher income given from having a degree, in theory, of course.... Though as I missed fees when I did my degree, I'm not exactly sure how I'd look at the system now...

hmm, funny I supose I've gotten to were everyone else is aiming, just with a lower pay, although I supose the flexability isn't bad, and I did get a 21% rise

Perhaps I should just go to more H2G2 meets. see more people anyway

Fail all else, you could go straight to Uni by doing a foundation year which would prepare you with all the nessercery info and techniques for the actual degree. I had a friend who wanted to do civil engineering, and he didn't have nearly enough grades to get in, but they said - agree to do a foundation year and we'll take you.

Just a thought.

I've heared that you can get some kind of thing if your in the industry for a number of years, and take the exam or somthing,

although to be honest I think alot of this rethinking my life buisness is homonal(SP)

I wonder what you feel your motives are for going to Uni...

for the degree? (do an Open University course)
to get a better job? (do specific job related training)
for the social life? (much over-rated, I hated my Uni days)

Amateur Dramatics is always a good way to broaden your circle of friends. And there's always loads of backstage/ front of house stuff to be done if you dont fancy treading the boards.
