Milla, h2g2 Operations

For a while, I've been gaining some weight, and the last ten days my belly has been really big.
I worried like mad, because the first really big sign of my mum's colon cancer was fluid in the abdomen. And then she died in six months.
So yesterday I went to the ER, and the actually took me seriously.
But it wasn't fluids. The regular ER sent me across the street, to the next building, to the gynaecology department.
Who took me in, and gave me a detailed ultrasound exam.
I have myomas.
Really big muscle tissue lumps in my uterus. One at about 4 cm, the other one 8 by 10 cm, approx.
And you know what?
I am sooooo relieved.
It's not fluid in my abdomen, due to cancer.
Myomas are very rarely malignant.
So now I'm waiting for the referral to come through, and get an appointment with the specialists there. I'm expecting a hysterectomy. And frankly? Bring it on. My periods have been painful for years, and I have all the children I want to have.

The doctor described to me, that my uterus is so enlarged, it's about the size of an 18 week pregnancy. Feels like it tbh.

But I'm not in pain, only uncomfortable. And I'm not scared.

Yup, those fibroids are a horrible curse. I ended up practically begging for a hysterectomy. Fortunately, unless you are pregnant or hoping to be, they are fairly benign, but very, very debilitating.

Keep plenty of newspaper in the car.

First, empathy for the pain and distress.
Second, relief that it is more easily treatable.
Third...

Good to see you're still here Milla. I've missed all of you for a decade. It's gonna take me a while to get 'reacquainted' with y'all, catching up on what's happened while I was gone.

Thanks guys!
But what's with the newspaper? Please explain

I'm also trying to spend a bit more time over here, compared to the common social media. It's nice to be myself again.
Which might seem weird, using a screen name and all, but there's less colleagues and potential employers and stuff.

I'm happy to answer any questions, and take advice about this uterus business, so don't be shy!

Well, seeings as you ask. I had a 20 minute drive home from work back in those days. If I started bleeding, 2 newspapers on the seat was just about enough to keep the seat clean. Have spoken to others who know what I mean.

I can't believe I'm writing this on a public forum. There's more, but I won't go on.

Let the record show that I have never keelhauled or marooned a fellow hitchhiker for speaking their mind. Or refusing to do so for that matter smiley - smiley

PS: I have experienced people jumping ship because they thought I got too involved in their private businesses, though smiley - erm
But that is for another thread so let's not get into that here!

thanks for explaining, TC. What are public forums for, if not baring your soul to people. Under a pen name, when chosen, of course.
That's why I'm so much more comfortable doing it here, than say on that book of faces. There, I have an image to uphold. Here, I'm me.

There is progress on the medical front. Next Wednesday, I've an appointment with a gynaecology specialist (however you spell that... Swedish has simplified it to gynekologi., that helps.)

So after that, I suppose I will just have to wait for surgery.

ho hum.
