while there are some nice similarities you should not mix scandinavians with people of the netherlands - or other european countries for that matter

and if you have citizenship in one of the EU countries we couldn't stop you coming here even if we wanted to smiley - winkeye

all we want from you is* please pay our sky high taxes smiley - biggrin

You can call me TC

I would like to know the answer to that one: - do foreigners (who also pay the extornionate VAT as they buy consumer goods while living there) benefit unconditionally from the health and social service in Sweden, Norway, etc?

If not, it's a bit like my situation - I give the German government half of my pay but I don't have a say in what they do with it. Taxpayer and citizen but not allowed to vote due to being nationality-challenged.

I think in Sweden (from what I've read) you can get registered if you'll live there for over a year. Then you get to visit the doctor on the same conditions as the Swedes, but not the dentist. smiley - weird

Dental service is not really a part of the health system. You have to pay most of the costs yourself. There are some contribution from the government for prophylactic dental care. So when I see my hygienist I get a reduction of some 10-15% of the cost, and a routine check-up by your dentist is also somewhat reduced. Elderly people (over 75 I think) can apply for higher coverage.

All EU citizens have basically the right to same medical care as residents if they can show a certificate from their country of residence that they are entitled to public health care there.

might be a solution, but...

i went to the dentist yesterday (like i do twice every year, just in case) and for the first time in years she found a defect filling

so she replaced it with a new one, but this time one of plastic, since the law says she's not allowed to use amalgam since 1st november

now, if only i had kept my first appointment i could have saved 2/3 of the bill, but i was unable to see her in october...

oh well, luckily i have a private health insurance on top of the public one, so i won't have to pay anything mentionable, and the new filling looks so much nicer than the old black ones smiley - biggrin

smiley - pirate

ps: i believe dragonqueen is right. once you've lived here for some time (could be a year, makes sense) you will be considered as scandinavian as the rest of us
