We smelled skunk several times on the way down to San Antonio Wednesday night, the first occasion immediately as we stepped outside the front door of the apartment. Must be mating season or something
I must say that I don't find it all an unpleasant smell... maybe it's worse up close

Yeah, the smell is a *lot* worse up close.
Pungent.
Acrid.
Offensive.
All words that hardly even *begin* a sufficient description.

No wonder! Those Bolognese put all kinds of things in their spaghetti sauce. I bet there's catnip and mouse in yours, which is why Dewey loves it so.

I was reading something in the paper yesterday that grapes were dangerous for dogs and cats. I know most cats wouldn't eat a grape, but dogs will. I will have to research this further.

It is true. Grapes and raisins can be poisonous to dogs and cats.
This is the ASPCS Poison Control report on the matter: http://www.aspca.org/site/News2?JServSessionIdr004=qo1784zrw1.app25b&page=NewsArticle&id=16645&security=2220&news_iv_ctrl=1101
"The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center continues to caution dog owners that raisins and grapes may be toxic to some dogs. From April 2003 to April 2004, the Center managed 140 cases, each involving one or more dogs that ingested varying amounts of raisins or grapes. Of these cases, over 50 animals developed clinical signs ranging from vomiting to life-threatening kidney failure, and seven dogs died."

Have just been reading this whole thread (you lot do witter on!) and someone said they didn't know a cat that thinks it's a dog.
Well, one of the two kittens I've got, Toby, has a thing for sticks. He goes outside, finds a lovely stick, drags it inside and chews it to bits, scattering mess around the house. If I manage to get the stick off him and throw it outside again, he chases it and brings it back. Then we repeat the exercise!
I'm loving spending the hols just getting to know them and their little quirks.

I witter on because I'm insane, Jules. For instance, last night I dreamed I was with Joseph Haydn, who was in women's clothing. No sane person could have had such a dream, right?

Is that the composer Haydn?
(I wasn't being rude about the wittering, btw. I'm the one reading people's past journals!)

Yes, that's the composer. His brother Michael was also a composer, and his baby brother was a singer. Some of the cousins were tonedeaf, and used the expensive harpsichords they inherited as shelves for storing scaks of flour.
I saw one of Joseph Haydn's harpsichords a couple weeks ago when I was in Vienna. The house he lived in was made into a museum, and it was two blocks from the hotel I was staying in.

At least you aren't trying to blame the equipment, Paul...
