If it had been my store, I'd have been there and they'd have filmed my "wide side".

And don't forget that the camera adds an extra
ten pounds.
A lot of us have wide sides that don't need
any extras.

I missed out on a TV appearance recently. The production team of the BBC pap - I mean drama series - 'Down to Earth' wanted to film a scene in the shop. Unfortunately, our company Press Office took exception to something in the script and refused permission.

No - as I understand it, the scene was part of a sequence where one of the central characters tries to flog their new locally-produced bottled water to various shops. Everyone says no, including 'us'. Presumably our marketing bods felt that this clashed with our image as a firm keen to source local produce.

Quite right. A little bit of ghastly trade jargon creeping in there.
Excuse me while I ritually disembowel myself.

Ah, I can see we're of a like mind Number Six Is it true that Ronnie Barker is going to reprise Fletch?
Got any 'ose?

Different Fletch, Paul. Gosho is speaking of one Norman Stanley Fletcher, the 'hero' of the classic 1970s BBC prison sitcom 'Porridge'. Hasn't that ever been shown in the States? Auntie Beeb still repeats it almost endlessly, despite the fact that only 21 episodes were ever made.

In fact, Porridge, or possibly the sequel, Going Straight, was bought-up by American TV and remade in an American context. Unsurprisingly, it didn't translate to an American setting and completely bombed

"Coronation Street" became "All in the Family"
on the American side of the pond.
"Fawlty Towers" became "Amanda's Place" (with
Beatrice Arthur as Amanda) on American television.
Sometimes the transplant works, and sometimes
it doesn't.

Actually, "All in the Family was based on "'Til Death Do Us Part".
"Coronation Street" is "Coronation Street" all over the world. It is the world's longest-running television drama ("The Archers" is the longest-running radio soap), the first show airing in December 1960.
