There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

If you have a spare five minutes or two over the weekend, would you mind taking a look at this A1084411 and telling me whether or not it makes sense?

I had never heard of lettered rock before
I read your article, Gosho. Sounds like the
ultimate oxymoron: a work of art that's also
in good taste (and tastes good!) smiley - smiley

Very interesting.

Yes, understandable, too.

You must miss your days as a sugar boiler.

I do smiley - bigeyes When I came to Austin, knowing that as soon as I got my work permit that I'd be needing a job, one of the first things I did was look around for any sweet factories there may be here.

The entry isn't quite finished yet - I'm going to be busy adding links over the weekend. Some of them - probably the most useful ones - will fail the on the House Rule concerning commercial links smiley - flustered

Maybe I could get Mrs Gosho to make some graphics and put them up on my own website smiley - eurekasmiley - biggrin

There ya go - great idea!

Do you ever make sweets at home, in small batches? Maybe you could sell them at the same flea market where you well the pet treats. I would imagine that homemade professionally made sweets would sell.

I always thought home delivery of desserts would be good.
Most places that deliver food at night do not have much in the way of sweets or desserts.

Some kinds of sweets are relatively easy to make at home, but things like lettered rock, striped humbugs, pear drops, in fact, most high boiled sweets are out of the question because you just haven't got enough material to work with unless you make a batch of at least 20 or 30lbs. By the time you get to that kind of batch size, you can't cook it on a kitchen stovetop.

I enjoy making those kinds of sweets, I enjoy working with the slabs, gas fires, machines, and huge copper pans of boiling sugar, and I enjoy working in a factory environment with other people.

The resort towns always used to have candy makers in the windows so all could watch. You still see taffy makers, but not much else.

This article is fascinating. I've often wondered how they got those tiny words inside the rock. Really very cool.

With all your sweet making experience, you could open your own store.

One spelling error that I noticed. (I know, it’s amazing that I, one of the most creative spellers of the English language after Shakespeare could identify a spelling error. Wow) the last paragraph of 'Turning it into sticks of rock' starts with ’Mnay years ago someone’ do you mean 'many'?

smiley - erm

Most of the web sites are about a rock
band by that name. smiley - yuk
The few sites that are about candy
offer recipes, but not online products.
Still, some of the recipes sound simple
enough to make....
