There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Started conversation Jun 15, 2003
Last night was one of the most bizarre I've had for a long time. Mrs Gosho and I were quite exhausted, so we went to bed around 11pm - kinda sad for a Saturday night, but there you go.
So, around 1am I had to get up to... well, let's just say I shouldn't have had that second cup of tea
At 2.18am the phone rang - it was a bloody fax machine
Between 3.30am and 5.00am a series of thunderstorms kept us awake on and off.
At about 5.45 Flossie started digging down to China in cat litter box. Ten minutes later she did the same thing (why can't cats pee and poo at the same time like normal people? )
Half an hour later Dewey decided that he wanted to go outside and began miaowing.
Half an hour after that *he* started scratching in the litter box.
At 7.30am Flossie tossed up a hairball.
Not surprisingly, Mrs G and I are rather bleary eyed today

the sound of 'cat-with-hairball' will wake me from the deepest sleep!
do you have any kind of 'white noise' in your bedroom? this might help you get into deeper sleep so that the lighter noises (like the cats digging or rain) aren't so prone to wake you up. can't guarantee it will help during particularly aggressive thunderstorms tho. there are aromatherapy products that will achieve the same end. i don't know what scents in particular, but Bath & Body Works has a whole line of wonderful-smelling stuff for a variety of purposes. granted they're a little expensive, but that could give you an idea of what scents to look for.
on the hairball front, i've recently switched foods in yet another attempt to curb the problem. we've been using Nutro Max Hairball Treatment for a little over a month now and i'm happy to report i haven't found any 'little presents' lately. milo's been on Nutro for a few years now and seems to like it pretty well, and he's a long-haired-compulsive-bather so after several attempts i'm glad to finally have found something that seems to work. Nutro is (of course) more expensive (i think i paid $5 for a 3 lb. bag last time), but if it's a big problem it's worth the expense.
for more immediate relief, have you considered asking lady s if you can have a nap?

We don't have any white noise generators in the room - Mrs Gosho will generally sleep through anything, and I use earplugs.
From my training and time as a massage therapist I recall that lavender is good for relaxation.
Flossie very rarely throws up - that's Dewey's job because he comes in and eats too much at once. And I don't ever recall her throwing up a hairball before, so I don't think it's anything to worry about
And I think I will have that nap

it doesn't necessarily have to be something specifically for white noise, any kind of low repetitive noise will do. a radio on low (on a talk station or static where the noise is somewhat constant), a fan - tho not a ceiling fan because they don't make noise, if your bedroom is near your laundry room (if you have one) you could turn on the dryer.

We don't live near to the laundry room, and it would cost us a fortune in quarters to keep one going all night
Mrs Gosho likes to have a radio (or even the tv ) on as she goes to sleep, but I prefer silence. We lived on a fairly noisy road when I was a kid and it didn't really bother me, but I've always been a light sleeper, and after 12 years of working nights and using earplugs to sleep during the day, I guess I've gotten too used to that kind of silence.
It's fairly quiet here at the apartment complex though - there's almost no noise from the street, there are no loud parties (although we did have one very loud late-night neighbour upstairs for a while), and even the a/c units which are conveniently situated right outside the bedroom windows hardly ever wake me up.
Any noise inside the apt. though, like the cats, will always do it.

Now *that* sounds like a good night's sleep!
Anyone who wants a nap is welcome to one, of course. You don't even need to bother to ask, because if you do, you might wake me.

Thank-you.
Your contribution to my nap quotient is greatly appreciated.
