[Briefly steps out from lurking.]
Another oddity: while Mina's name is 'Sod off and leave me alone', you show up in the conversation thread listing thingie as 'Oh Yeah?' Am I missing something really obvious? (If I am, it's sleepiness what did it!)
[ @ Matholwch's story.]
[Slips back into the shadows.]

I'm not really here Posted Feb 25, 2005
I just changed my name again - the forum obviously hasn't caught up yet.

My sister, a primary school teacher in a 'bad' area of Liverpool, once had a pupil named Stella...'After the laaaaager.'

When I was at uni in Portsmouth one of my mates was basically being stalked by this lass for months.
He ended up sleeping with her at a party and she went off him .
How odd.
Ferrettbadger. The Renegade Master Posted Feb 25, 2005
Im sure you can imagine he has had a hard time about it ever since!
"Your so bad at sex you put your stalker off!"
How odd.
Hoovooloo Posted Feb 25, 2005
No need to be bad at it, per se.
Reminds me of the joke. Businessman has a Japanese girlfriend. One night they're going at it, and she's shouting...
"間違った穴, 間違った穴".
He thinks "She must mean, 'that's great', or 'oh yeah', or something."
So next day he's on the golf course with an important Japanese client, and the guy sinks a very long and tricky putt. Businessman claps politely and says "間違った穴".
Japanese guys looks puzzled and says "What do you mean, wrong hole?"
Ay theng yo.

Yak yak, anyone hear the one about the three rats on Virgin radio t'other day?
How odd.

I was having a mooch and found this convo. It reminded me of the time I was yikes for mentioning the name of a pop group 'N*****s with Attitude'
Believe me i understand the reasons this word is contentious, but these guys chose to embrace it and take it back, yet it can't be mentioned here.
Or can it, waits to see whether it will get yikes again.
How odd.

Seriously, though. I'd say that that one comes under the heading of 'reasonable quotation'.
I think it would be reasonable to quote Muhammed Ali's 'No Viet Cong ever called me N****r'. It was a deliberate political attempt to shock - as is the naming of a band 'NWA'
I *personally* would asterisk out - but wouldn't yikes - other examples where the quote itself was offensive. Such as Elvis Costello's (youthful, drunken) description of Ray Charles as '...an ignorant n-word'. And I'd say that Guy Gibson's dog is in the same category.

I wasn't sure whether is was an s or a z. So I googled it with the s and that seemed okay!
Asterisking it would be more appropriate then completely pulling the post, which is what happened.
I never knew Elvis Costello said anything like that, I hope he was very very drunk and had a rotten hung-over.
How odd.

Ah...my opinion clearly differs from that of the mods. I've been asterisked above. Fair enough. An honest disagreement: they have to err on the side of safety and don't have the luxury of being able to make value judgements case-by-case.
How odd.
GreyDesk Posted Mar 14, 2005
But 3 hours later, they've yet to catch up with Sorrel's 'mis-spelling' of the self same word in post 110
How odd.
Researcher U1025853 Posted Mar 14, 2005
There are websites on N*****s with Attitude and on N****z with Attitude, I am not the only one to make a spelling mistake it seems.
How odd.
Edward the Bonobo - Gone. Posted Mar 14, 2005
I didn't mean any offence.
Anyway...I'll be interested if that post is also asterisked. I'd also be interested if the -a- spelling is unacceptable. After all, it's no different to N-word or N******.
How odd.
GreyDesk Posted Mar 14, 2005
My guess would be that the 'az' spelling will stay on the basis that no-one is looking for it.
I mean you don't mis-spell it 'cant' if you're searching for the other one, now do you

Back to the original subject.
I recently got two moderation e-mails regarding posts Id made mentioning the RL name of a researcher some of us are well acquainted with.
Not a big deal Id in good faith used a previous screen name of hers to tease her about her numerous name changes and did not know Id broken the house rules.
Fine Id accept this as more of the random scans of contentious threads that one of the italics has told us about if it werent for the fact that in the posts following mine Jimster uses the same name and its still up on the thread.
So this looks more like a deliberate attempt by person or persons unknown not to expunge the use of the name but to targtet me for whatever reasons
Key: Complain about this post
