Hotpoint training and other stuff...

I haven't written a journal in nearly 2 years - too much to do and so many things to sort out...

So, this may be about a small thing in our lives, but he is very interesting and very funny! To us anyway. In 5 years time, I'd like to look at my fat, placid cat and remember the early days.

We adopted Gravyhead smiley - blackcat a year ago. He was a scrawny, feral, tiny monster, but one day he looked inside at the sofa and the food bowl, took another look outside at his feral, half-starved family and decided it was a no-brainer! He hasn't left the sofa since! The name came from how keen he was to be fed, his head was down in the bowl before the last drips of gravy came out of a cat food pouch - he got a lot of gravy on his head! After neutering, lots of vet visits and a lot of love, he has turned into a fairly independent, but loving moggie! All he asks is a couple of cuddles a day, a bowl of biscuits and a comfy sofa or bed to sleep on when it's hot. And he likes to come and watch while you hang out the laundry. smiley - huh

So this year, with Gravy's mama spawning a new litter (no chance of grabbing her for a vet trip!), we decided to take on another one. Hotpoint! The first incursion into the house ended up with him jammed under the fridge and unable to get himself out! He's a tiny, ginger and white hellion! Mama punted him and his 2 sisters a bit early (around 4 weeks old) so he's had to fight for a lot in his little life. Currently, he's fighting every houseplant, soft furnishing and vertical blind into submission! He's not exactly shy with the household fittings at 7 weeks old! smiley - biggrin

He's happy running around the house, but not so happy with humans getting close, so today started the slow process of human training! He lives mostly in the hedge at the moment so is a tad flea-infested and picking up all sorts of bugs. We would like to get him to the vet as soon as we can but we need to get him used to being handled. Gravy is being a star and has taken over Mum duties and pins him down for a good wash and telling off at various points in the day.

So today, though it's harsh, there was no food for Hotpoint til he came to the bowl by my side and allowed a few strokes along his back. The second he flinches, the bowl is taken away. Gravy is being fed from the same bowl at the same time (he gets extras later!) so it's double duty on the stroking front to show that it's all OK.

3 pot plants and the cords for 4 sets of blinds have been lifted out of the way to save on the cleaning up and mass destruction!! This may be a slow process...

The time has come to bid you farewell for a while.smiley - cry The t'internet man is cutting off our lovely connection at some point tomorrow and we will be offline until we get married, get our stuff to Cyprus and convince the nice man there that DDD and I really do need some broadbean in our lives.smiley - biggrin

My parents arrive on Wednesday to help us get ready (or rather, to help clean the house!) with a few folk turning up on Sunday and then on Monday we are off to Gibraltar to meet DDD's folks and to swear undying devotion to each other on Wednesday 4th April!smiley - wowsmiley - bubbly Only 9 days away!smiley - yikes My mother is delighted that she will be spending the afternoon of her baby girl's wedding day hobnobbing with the monkeys and exploring the caves on the Rock - not!smiley - rofl She'd rather go to the pub, but it's our day, we insist!smiley - laugh

We then return to Portugal to welcome all the rest of the reprobates and have a blessing and reception booked on the beach on Wednesday 11th April, just in case we weren't thorough enough the first time!smiley - winkeye This will be our proper wedding bash smiley - bubblysmiley - redwinesmiley - bubblyand I'm getting more excited by seeing all my family and friends and DDD's in one place than in the second wedding!

We then have a few days to sober up, relax and holiday with the folks until they all go home and we move to Cyprus on the 18th. It may take us a bit of time to get a desk for the 'puter and get plugged in.

No doubt, DDD will add his own journal entry at some point this evening, but I like to get in early! If it wasn't for this place, then I would never have met the smiley - lovegorgeous, funny, loving, wonderful man that DDD is and wouldn't be planning this very special day with him.smiley - love Well done Auntie Beebsmiley - applause She's not getting an invite though - no aunties allowed!

So, a new husband, a new country, a new home and a new life all together. It's a bit overwhelming at exactly this minute and the logistics are dementing us, but I'm sure we'll muddle our way through.

A big thank you to everyone who has sent their best wishes and we will raise a glass to you on the day - or even on both days!smiley - laugh

Birthday time again!

PARTY TIME!!!! Bar is open!smiley - alesmiley - stiffdrinksmiley - redwine

I have officially reached the grand total of 34 years on this planet!smiley - wow Today was a work day but I got to have a good old lie-in, a relatively easy day at the ofice with loads of pressies (my company always gives lovely pressies out on behalf of all the staff - the joys of working for a small company!smiley - biggrin I got the most snazzy set of designer pj's and matching slippers!)

I got the loveliest frog card from DDD with a tear-inducing poem in it! He's an old romantic, sometimessmiley - love. I also got a shiny new super-duper pair of my favourite trainers and was surprised at work with the HUGEST bouquet of gerberas, orchids, and lilies from him! It was a two man job to get them into the vase and positioned on the table. They are so big, we've had to prop them on the table against the wall!smiley - wow

We were going to go out for dinner tonight but I've decided that I'd rather go for an Indian takeaway (DDD not keen on them so it's a special event thing only!), get into my snazzy pj's and get lamb bhuna all down them!smiley - biggrin

I am a very, very lucky girlsmiley - smiley

So whatcha having? I've even got sparklers and fruit-on-a-stick for cocktails!

A rock from Gibraltar!

Hello All,

Me'n'DDD had a lovely time in Gibraltar the weekend past. Was pishing down in Portugal when we left, but by the time we drove there, the sun had come out and the weather was warm enough to sit outside for lunch in the big square.smiley - cool

Did the usual load of undie and clohes shopping and managed to fit at least 100 jars of Chicken Tonight and Pataks sauces in the back of the car!smiley - biggrin

We also did another bit of shopping, and Deakie has come away from the Rock with a rock of her own!smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrin

DDD smiley - love asked me to marry him last week and I said 'YES!!!!' I now have an exquisite lump of sapphire and diamonds on my finger to make it official and I can get round to telling people all about it!smiley - biggrin

You might want to start looking at hats, Spit!!!smiley - laugh

Baby names - crunch time!

OK, my sister is presently in the delivery room of her local hospital, huffing and puffing her way into producing my new niece or nephew.smiley - puff

It pains me to say it, but my previously lovely, sane, quite hip and trendy sister, has gone a bit mad with this pregnancy lark and is proposing to lumber my dear niece or nephew with the worst names I have ever heard in my life!smiley - sadface

The current choices are Niall for a boy and Isla for a girl!smiley - yuk We must stop this! The baby will be born in the next few hours and unless we do something now, I'll never be able to live with myself if I don't do anything.

I have publicly stated that I shall be calling the baby Fred, whether it is a boy or a girl! Please suggest alternate names that I can give as a list to the poor deluded parents in their time of need.......
