Geoff! Geoff! And here I thought that Niall was bad!!!

A very good friend of mine has called her new baby Geoff! And it's not even as if it's her Dad's name or anything, she said she just liked it... He'll be smoking a pipe by the time he's 2!

smiley - huh

What is going on in the world?

And as an extra little bit of humiliation, Geoff's middle name is going to be Alfredo!

The baby's dad's Portuguese and that's his Grandad's name!

Wouldn't be so bad if he was gonna grow up in Portugal, but since they live in Glasgow now...smiley - yikes

What's wrong with Niall? smiley - erm It's just the Irish version of Neil, it's quite common over here.

I think Isla is far stranger than Niall, I know two Nialls but I've never heard of Isla before.

Isla a very traditional Scottish name, but not very common. Most people remember it from Isla St Clair http://www.islastclair.tv/ who was on 'The Generation Game' for years and is a fairly famous folk singer, but I guess that was before your time!smiley - biggrin

I remember watching it as a kid but the only bit I can remember is the conveyor belt with toasters and cuddly toys and things

I have to admit I was thinking of Is-la until I read a bit of the backlog and people were making jokes about Isla Wight etc, which confused me, until I suddenly clicked. smiley - smiley

I live in Portugal where Ilha (which next door in Spain is spelled Isla, although they are all pronounced the same) means island. Everyone thought it was really funny that my neice's name was 'island' although, it means exactly the same in Scotland.smiley - biggrin
