Strangely I was (mostly) thinking of having a punt with gxf5.

Odd thing long post last night came out of premod in a few minutes. Tonight three short (innocuous) ones are still in it.

Btw got SO to send me a copy of 'The Human Touch'. Don't know when I'll get round to it though. Current reading list is in a massive tailback

No it's not that

I have a tendency to play out possible moves on the board - being rubbish and not given to doing it in my head unless I have to.

In the other place I had a spare board so I used that but not here. The board I bought recently was for my other now postal game

I thought I had a solution using Winboard/Xboard would allow me to revert the board to its true state.

However the multi-platform (I am afarensis) rushing about during Dies Natalis Solis Invicti scuppered that.

So no more moves until i replay 1 thru 27.5

Ah I see.

Fair enough. I have a self imposed rule, I don't touch the pieces until I make a move. When I make a move on the board I post it here, no going back. It seems more like a real game then, though I'm sure this isn't the way postal games are supposed to be done.

Well I'm eagerly anticipating your next.

Well it's a view.

This is my first go at 'postal' chess and I a finding it a ery different experience prom taking part in a live game in all sorts of ways, both psychological and practical

I guess I just prefer to enjoy each for what it is.

I don't think I'd describe it as a 'view'. Perhaps an 'aesthetic', and as you say, each to his own.

This is only my second postal game and so far I find them enjoyable.

Yes, I enjoy it to. The only problem I found so far is that if the time between moves is too long then I was difficult to get back in the groove.

I have yesterday re-creation stalled singe the game but I think there is a problem with my move at 26.

I appear to have made an illegal move, or more properly an illegal non-move.

I can't see anything wrong with 26....b7.

If I haven't got my algebraic notation muddled again (always a strong possibility) row 7 is my starting pawn row. So my b column pawn would already be on b7

Yes you are quite right b7 is a non move which I have been stubbornly yet unconsciously interpreting as the much more sensible 'b6', to such an extent that I was blind to the slip. If you meant b6 then we can just continue because that's how my board looks.

I was in a similar position in that I made the b6 move but recorded it as b7

Of course if I hadn't written 'a punt with gxf5' instead of 'a punt with bxc5' we would probably have carried on regardless.

Anyhow as soon I finished entering the state of play into Winboard/Xboard I'll get back to you.
