h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

This isn't about grilling Tango. Quite the reverse, it's about Tango grilling us and I'm quite happy for that to happen. I have three reasons for suggesting that this conversation be moved to CommunityArtists.

Firstly, if Tango is asking questions about how the CA Group functions, I think the other CAs would have a lot to add to the discussion.

Secondly, some of the concerns Tango has expressed in his emails to me are about specific pieces of work and I'm not prepared to make comments on the work of others on h2g2 so the comments should be in a place where the artists can reasonably be expected to come across them.

Thirdly, explaining what we do and why we do it is going to involve some long and complex answers. If I'm going to spend my time giving those answers - time I'd much rather spend working on graphics for h2g2, incidentally - then let's at least have them somewhere that people interested in the CA scheme are likely to read them in the future. That way, perhaps we can avoid having to give the same answers over and over again.

Yup. I stayed up way late to let the render finish, then decided I might as well do some post-processing and get the graphics up on Yahoo. And then, while I was online I thought I'd just look in here, and one post has led to another.

I had better haul myself across to Yahoo and do battle with the adverts then . Sleep well. Can I assume I'll be having a late lunch today?

I don't know!! I'm getting a bit silly, and really ought to make some hot chocolate and get to bed. The blasted road workers will be hurling their pickups through town in 4 hours.

Ok, i'm going to stop responding to posts one at a time, and i'm going to go away and compile a detailed explanation of my actions and reasons for them. That will probably not be completed until after the weekend. I therefore ask people to leave any further questions/comments until then. I will post my explanation on an article and will post a link to it here.

I didn't know about that page; but seeing it, and hearing you refer to it as Spook's page rather than your own, even though you have the creation credit, well, it rather confirms that Atled is a group account. And, since you profess being unable to draw, then the artwork Atled submitted was probably a group effort, so to speak, as well. That would explain your reluctance to answer that particular question. You're taking the fall.

I don't think that Wotchit will be best pleased to see his wonderful 'Underneath the Surface' banner used in such a way either - although, being a blob, it is, of course, free game.

While we're waiting, lets organise a hunt. All you lurkers head off to U204560 where you can search for evidence that the artwork on this site is going to the dogs. There are some links to artists' catalogues and also a link to the extremely useful Front Page Archives.

That should temporarily reduce the blizzard of dandruff in this thread caused by so many people scratching their heads and wondering what's going on.

I'm given credit on spooks page because i supplied the story about moderation emails going wrong. I can confirm that spook had nothing to do with Atled.

Deliberately misleading people isn't cool. To do something like this, without full posession of the facts, seems a bit premature, not to mention immature. Neither Lil, nor any other CA I have met on this sight, has ever shown him or herself to be unwilling to discuss issues, even touchy ones. In fact, most artists I know, both here and IRL, are actually quite good at discussion, what with having their work critiqued on a fairly regular basis. What possessed you to create an alternative personality and deliberately deceive people? Is there something to this that you aren't sharing, that would help us see why you felt the need to do this?

Okay, that's about as harsh as I get (see, not so bad). But frankly, ya'll are being a bit too elliptical for my taste.

The artwork is still terrific, I think. You're all incredibly talented!

I don't believe that's what Tango is curious about though. He's smart enough to know that there isn't a huge conspiracy to make the artwork worse

I have already said that i will explain everything after the weekend. There is a lot of information to compile and backlog to read if i am to make it the fullest explanation i can, so you will have to be patient. I will however respond to a few of your points here.

No. Where on earth did you get that idea?

Don't worry about my feelings, i have a hard shell. Just say whatever you want, as long as it remains within the bounds of the house rules and the law.

Who said it was? I have said repeatedly that i regret having to mislead people. I did what I felt, and still feel, was the right course of action given the information i had.

What are you on about? Read backlog before posting please. I did it in order to GET all the facts. How exactly do you expect me to get all the facts, and THEN do it? That would be pointless. You think i am immature? At least i am capable of reading, i wish the same could be said for you.

I beg to differ. Details will be included in my forthcoming article.

That is exactly what i plan to answer with my article, as you would have known if you had read the backlog.

It seems i have been slightly harsher than you in response. For that i do not apologise. I have very little tolerance for stupid people, and you clearly fall into that catagory. If you read the backlog you will notice a distinct difference between this post and my previous ones on this subject. When people ask me questions in a mature, sensible, and polite manner, i will respond in kind. It someone asks my stupid questions having not bothered to get all the facts that are easily availible i will tolerate it.

I just remembered, i never answered someones question about why i plan to write an article, not a conversation posting. An article is much better for large amounts of information. It can be edited, it can be written clearly in GuideML, and it has its own forum which lends itself perfectly to discussion about it. People have made it clear that they do not want this discussion taking place on threads they use for other things, and i respect that, so this article will give a specific place for discussions.

This is what I'm talking about. I was blunt, not rude. I am quite capable of reading, thank you. I most emphatically did not say you were immature, I said I thought your actions may have been.

Now really, was there any call at all for such a personal attack? I did not attack you personally, I said your actions were hasty. I did not call you names, nor did I judge you. I asked questions. That's what I'm trained to do. And just so you understand where I am coming from, I am most emphatically not stupid, as (you wanna play, we'll play) you would have seen if you had even bothered to get the facts. I eat people like you for lunch.

And if you'll note, my reply was to post #80, so while I was typing away in all earnestness, you posted the bit about writing an article, and holding all questions.




Now who's not in possession of the facts?
