I thought mine up all by myself, but I don't know whether I can think of many more.

Y'all are going to love this. In the Talk of the Town section of the latest New Yorker is a piece on the notable psychotherapist Albert Ellis, who has just turned 90. He remains active. He has written a couple of books just in the last year and is, I quote, 'collecting "thousands of articles about how stupid people are" as research for a third, tentatively titled: A History of the Dark Ages: The Twenty-First Century.'

Why oh why did I bother? I should have known better. Honestly, I just couldn't let that whole thing blow by. He's sixteen, for crying out loud. Remember how insufferable WE all were at sixteen? I don't know how our parents tolerated all that melodrama and smug self-righteousness.
I, for one, got grounded a lot.

I'm not really here Posted Oct 11, 2003
Don't let it get to you. It's just his way of avoiding talking about the problems. When I'm asking my son why he's eaten all the biscuits because it's naughty, he avoids the issue by telling me I'm mean because I won't let him eat as many as he likes. Seems like the same thing to me. We won't do what *he* wants, so he attacks us.
It took me a long time to learn that you can't make people do what you want. Tango hasn't learnt that yet, he thinks he can force us to discuss things his way by threatening us with being called stupid. When he GROWS THE HELL UP he'll realise that there are worse things than being called stupid. Still, that's when he'll start carrying a big metal bar in his car ro force peeople to see things his way.

I don't remember ever being that obnoxious and argumentative. Of course my memory isn't what it used to be.

It's time you re-introduced large predators in England.
Seriously, he does it because he can, of course. This was the very strange thing I discovered about Mike A, who raged all over H2G2, spewing obscenities and making racist remarks until he got banned; it turned out that he was an intelligent and thoughtful person who had some genuine issues. Being 14, he was stupid enough to come and raise them here without any thought as to the consequences -- all he perceived was the freedom to be able to do so, a freedom which soon got yanked.
My point is that all we know of Tango is the completely unlikeable face he's showing us. And if I were him, I would be having some resentments about being left to face the weather alone. Course, I haven't been over to that thread yet this morning. Perhaps the Artist Has Spoken...

Don't worry -- if it's Tango, all his posts are being pre-modded and will be instated after examination.

What bothers me the most is that the kid is probably miserable. If he talks to his peers the way he talks to us, he's probably dreadfully lonely. I've been there, and frankly, it's not fun.
My mother, that font of proverbial wisdom, reminded me the other day that my daughter will have to make the same stupid mistakes I did, and no amount of my telling her my experiences will change that....
But I really do want to reach Tango. I sense a dreadful unhappiness behind all that bravado.

I'm not tired of the anagram thing yet; I have some interesting variations to choose from.
Tomorrow I look forward to an accounting of various headaches.

Thanks Hiya Pat - I think I've seen those 100 bottles of beer and drunk them all - so it's off to bed I go... and I better remember to change the Post name back in the morning or I may be in big trouble from the rest of the group.

H makes me go to bed too Of course it's... what six hours earlier here?
I think the anagrams are fun, by the way. I try to guess who the people are before I click on their name and figure out. 'tis fun!
