since I am sitting at the computer more often again the other one is of enormous interest for the rest of the family
(so the kids should save all the money they can and buy her mum a laptop)

I once had a laptop (or rather known as notebook here). It was a bargain on e*** and worked fine for quite a while.

I would also only need an old one, it wouldn't need much of ram and rom, since I would only use it for the place here and my messengers

That's all I use mine for. It's fully sufficient for the bit of graphics the site needs etc.

One day, when I am grown up and so on - I will be able to afford one (ahem I think it will be when the kids are grown up and out of house )

I'm not 100% sure, but what I'm interpreting the smiley as Tina is sort of a sign of slight annoyance or mild displeasure. As in that's not right! Or No sadly I don't have one of those yet it would make things so much easier.

Well, we have to get used to the thought, haven't we?
The important thing is though, to prepare them for that step and let them know that there is always an open door for them (and some nice dinner if needed as well)

Thanks for explaing, jaz'd.
Tina, I've been trying to prepare my sons for this step for years now, but my eldest is blocking every attempt.
He'll have a hard time once he's on his own.

Ah Tina, what messengers do you have? I was using ICQ but am now on Yahoo.

I hope my kids can cope one day, but I think it will work out somehow. My eldest son knows at least how to put pizza into the oven (and recently told me it would be good if I would show how to make a homecooked one), he knows how to make spaghetti and scrambled eggs.
The others know a little bit more about cooking.
And as for the rest - they all know how to do the washing up (preferably how to fill the dishwasher) and how to run the laundry machine.
So I don't worry too much (my second son is even good at window cleaning, so it is his job here)
Darrell, I use the icq as well as the yahoo

Well, I can't but offer showing them how to do things, if they don't want to learn, they'll learn later. I didn't know anything when I left home, we weren't allowed to run the dish washer or washing machine, or to cook, and I learnt, too, so I'm not overly worried.

I knew everything, or almost everything, because my sister and I had to help in the house. Something we always complained about, but it was a good training for later (not that I ever liked it)

Ooh, don't get me wrong, we had to do all the cleaning and gardening and shopping, we just weren't allowed to touch the expensive items like the washing machine, and, much later, the dish washer.

matodemi Posted Jun 9, 2007
Ah okay, well, we were allowed to touch them but that wasn't necessary too often, these things were mostly done when we were at school or out. But at least we knew how to...

and we were allowed to cook, even encouraged to. And it was the other way round, if something didn't go really well it was my Mum who complained, never my Dad (she said then: but I told you ever so often how to do it, forgetting that everyone makes mistakes - but then she never really liked cooking even though she did that quite well)
