Painful Stuff
Posted Apr 15, 2005
I had a tooth ripped out of my head by the dentist last Wednesday. It has been giving me gyp for weeks, and it is still kicking in because I had to have stitches in my gum to stop it bleeding. To add insult to injury. while I was dripping blood all over my shirt he told me in future I will have to pay top wack because he is going to go private.I think we will have to join some kind of insurance plan ifwe are going to stay with him. The family have been going to him for over forty years so we don't feel like changing.
In spite of my intense agonising pain I took the Boss out today, it has been lovely weather(until this evening) so we went off on thecoast road with a flask of tea and bought pasties at Portreath andate them watching the sea roll onto the North Cliffs.I wish I could post pictures here it was wonderful. The sea as blue as can be with huge white horses cresting the waves.
We have about thirty young thugs wanting to join the boxing club. Each one has been told how disciplined it is going to be and how tough but they all seem keen. Some of'em are from very tough backgrounds and have no sense of discipline or respect so it will beinteresting to see how they getalong. The club opens in September. The first fight is to be a demonstration of Cornish Clotted cream wrestling between an aging(but agile Cornishman) and a mad grannie who paints her grandkiddies for fun and spends all night messing around with a crowd of blokes.
The Boss forced me to watch The Wedding' and I suppose the poor old dears deserve each other after all this time. But I still think Deirdre smokes too much

Operatic stuff 8th April
Posted Apr 8, 2005
We went to see 'Oliver' being performed by the local amateur dramatic society. The word 'amateur being absolutely accurate. We went because our Y.D.G. had a solo to sing as a workhouse kid and was in the chorus. It was colourful, and tuneless(except for Y,D.G. of course.) Mr. Bumble's hat fell of at one point and he then forgot his lines. The 'girl' playing Nancy was about 50 and sang like a demented fishwife. the seats were hard and I came away with a sore bum. However as all the 'artistes are local and I met quite a few today in the village I have told more lies than Tom Pepper. It is very difficult to say the whole thing was crap when the leading lady has her six foot husband with her. This is the only place where I would dare say the show was rubbish.
Just seven miles we away we have the Kidz theatre group which performs shows that are most professionaly produced.
We had a little snow today which was a bit of a surprise not enough to play and it didn't stick and it has been quite cold. I feared for my new roses which have a lot of new growth but they look O.K.
I have managed to raise quite a bit of money for the boxing club but now I am struggling to get the people on the committee to do their bit Even The Son who started me off on this lark is 'busy' and can't seem to find the time to do his bit
The Boss and I are quite well, I am still waiting to see the dentist but the tooth is painless now 'cos I am living on painkillers,
Most of my friends and I are really cross because Parker Bowles is to be titled Duchess of Cornwall. We didn't mind Diana having the title too much as she was quite pretty, but most of us Cornish dislike English people being given Cornish titles many English people forget we are a conquered nation and resent being reminded of the fact by the English having Cornish titles.
Kernow Bys Vicken,

Easter Stuff
Posted Apr 4, 2005
I hope every one had as good an Easter as we did The Olympian came down for a few days with his lady and we had a laugh a minute. On Easter Sunday I arranged lunch for 10 of us at a local hotel. The Olympian and Lady, me and The Boss, Son, His Wife and four G.C.
Unfortunately The Son forgot to put his clocks forward and turned up after phone calls from me very very late. However the hotel people were very good and kept our table free even tho it was very busy
After the meal we went to Porthleven where there was an Easter fete and watched the tug of war. Bought silly stuff from the stalls and generally played the happy tripper thing.
While our guests were here we enjoyed really good weather and were out and about every day. They left on Wednesday and I had to get down to raising more money for the boxing club. So far I have raised two and a half thousand pounds, the target is six thousand so it is coming along. We are hoping to open the club on the 1st of September and I am going to invite U.G. to come down and take me on for a demonstration bout to open the proceedings.
I have been so busy but having great fun. I have just ordered some more roses for my raised bed. The roses I have in it now all have my Christian name in their name somewhere, and the ones I have ordered all have The Boss' Christian name in them. So The Boss and I will be in bed together 24/7.
I have just discovered my car has been out of M.O.T. since last August it is booked in for tomorrow, my tax and insurance is up in July so when I paid them last year I just forgot about the test, it is the first time I have driven illegaly and feel really guilty.
I think Easter is a better holiday than Christmas and I have had such a good one. My garden is full of colour, as are the hedge rows. It is getting warmer and my poor old bones appreciate that, and the evenings are lighter. Brilliant!!

marriage stuff.

Today The Boss and I have been married for 49 years.Where has the time gone
The day did not really start well(except for the fact we are together of course)
The flowers I had sent to The Boss ordered at the post office were very expensive and not very good
I had the result in the post this morning of my first O.U. course. It just said two words'Not Achieved'which was a bit of a let down as each essay I sent in had a glowing assessment from my tutor yet my overall result was bad
The Son phoned late morning because he had forgotten we were having a special day.
The venetian blind in our bedroom has broken, and we can't open the french windows because the lock has jammed.
It has been foggy all day so we didn't bother to go out and we both fell asleep on the settee this afternoon The Son did pop in this evening with some flowers and a bad mood because he and his lady are 'off sides'so all in all it hasn't been a wonderful day. But our kitchen is not in a 'Shirps' state the blind man has been and a new blind will be in next week. The locksmith says he will be here next wek also. The garden is full of spring flowers. We both feel pretty good after all the health problems we have had. And that nice Mr. Brown says we will have free bus rides next year. maybe I'll sell the car

garden stuff

Now the weather is good I have been getting out in the garden again. My lasagne rose bed is looking good, all the roses are thriving and there should be some great colour later on. I decided to get rid of my big lawn, and today I laid matting to stifle the grass and spread the first few metres of plum coloured slate. I have bought stepping stones, edged the slate area with natural rock and when it is finished the garden will have a kind of Japanese look(I hope). I was going to get my gardener friend to come and do the work but feel so fit decided to do it myself. With the money I save I am going to buy more plants. I have all the beds nearly full so I am going in for clematis and get the garden growing upwards!
My roses came because I chatted to Teuchter and she told me where to find them on the net. My lasagne rose bed came about because U.G. told me about lasagne gardening. Hootoo is more than just fun,I have learned a lot from the threads.
I have some spare time because I have finished my first set of essays in this block of my O.U.course.
The Boss is well and we have recovered from our excesses of partying a couple of weeks ago. I try to pop in here at least once a day to see what is going on but seem to have got out of the habit of playing the games, I guess it is because there is so much else going on. The Son is coming round tomorrow to give me a hand in the garden, the G.C are all coming as well. Should be fun
