Don't be sorry, it's better than spendibg a night in Milan, alone with my baby.

If it's not you paying the hotel bill, and you actually speak Italian, know Milan, and don't have 2 suitcases and a pram to handle- I guess there's lots of joy in it. Anyway, it's too late. The flight's gone by now.

Oh, dear, that does sound kind of bleak. I hope to go to Italy with a choral group two years from now, and I *will* be paying all my own bills, and *will* have lots of luggage to carry around. And, it's not likely that I will understand Italian, though two years might be enough time to rectify that.
But I doubt Milan will be on the itinerary. Naples, Rome, and Venice would be among the most probable destinations. I personally am crazy about the idea of seeing the Colosseumn and the Appian Way. Or maybe I'm just crazy on geenral principles.

i spent 9 hours in the airport of palma di mallorca once with the entire family 11 adults and 14 kids (of whom some were still in diapers) and thousands of other stranded passengers due to an air pilot strike .
we were promised free sandwiches and drinks, but they ran out of it before we could reach the counter
when i re-visited mallorca years later there was another strike but by then i was lucky to be on my own, so had no kids to worry about - contrary to the young couple in the next seat, whose baby obviously had both colic and a middle ear infection - and was teething
i have never been so happy coming home from a holiday!

aye, , it was. and a good one too. lot's of and
the holiday was just an ordinary holiday. or rasther: it should have been
most of it was very good actually. all of it, in fact, except getting there and back again. flying is okay, but there are better ways to spend time.

nope. herrings. just like the japanese we are fond of raw . but very much *un*like the japanese we prefer them with sugar on top
(actually we marinade the raw in spiced vinegar (one of the spices being sugar - usually too much sugar ). some of the are breaded and fried first. some are dipped in various cold sauces after marinating, the most common sauces being a cold cream sauce with curry or a cold sauce with sherry)
hence the need for a lot of to wash it all down with, see?
